GOLF NEWS-Ladies team Kenya brings pride to the Country after clinching bronze in AACT at Morocco;

Ladies team Kenya stamped their authority to bring pride to Country by clinching bronze medal in this year’s All-Africa Challenge trophy (AACT) at the Tazegzout golf club course in Morocco over the weekend.
The team presented by KLGU was among over 21 African Countries who graced the tournament played from Thursday, to Saturday with each Country fielding three of their top players.

Kenya team led by Captain Naomi Wafula, golf park’s Mercy Nyanchama and Muthaiga’s Bianca Ngecu under the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Chairman Jane Babza Nzibo recorded a combined total of 7 overs for 439 points to claim a third spot in the three days tournament.


Wafula thanked Kenyans for their prayers, team mates for excellent team work and the two reserve players Margaret Njoki of Golf Park and Ashley Awuor from Royal Nairobi.
“Morocco was an incredible experience. The competition was tough, but the hospitality and support from the organizers made it memorable. We are proud finishing 3rd and winning bronze. It’s always an honor to represent our country on such a platform. We had amazing unity thank you to our and the Vice Chairman,” said Wafula on behalf of the team.


KLGU Chairman Jane Babsa Nzibo also praised the team saying that they showcased Kenya’s talent, determination, and sportsmanship that gave the Country a top spot in the tournament.
“You support and encourage made the team undoubtedly brought success in this highly anticipated tournament. With a shared commitment to excellence, the players were dedicated and disciplined which resulted to delivering these exceptional results, “said Nzibo.
Nzibo further thanked a local fashion brand Vivo who supported the team by generously donating the golf attire for the final round and that this collaboration further underscored the team’s unity and spirit in representing Kenya on the international stage.
Morocco, the host team made of Nadia Sanz Ouezzani, Rim Imni and Sofia Cherif Essakali claimed the gold trophy after emerging the overall winner on 7 under for a total of 425 points.


While South Africa who has been dominating the leadership board in many years were the silver winners for their second place after returning a five under for 427 points from their team of Gio Raad, Lisa Coetzer and Kesha Louw.


Morocco’s Sofia Cherif Essakali was the Junior individual champion round up the three rounds on under 12 from 69,66 and 69 gross and South Africa’s Louw claimed the runners up spot with 6 under after playing 69,73 and 68.
The tournament allows all African countries to participate and is a biennial continental lady’s golf championship in Africa.
It had its inaugural edition in May 1992 organized by the Zimbabwe Golf Ladies’ Union at Chapman Golf Club in Harare, Zimbabwe and won by South Africa.
Kenya has hosted the tournament twice in 1994 and 2014 both played at Muthaiga golf club in Nairobi and also won by South Africa.
