GOLF NEWS-Wesley Bosuben braves heavy winds to clinch the EATTA top prize at Mombasa golf club.

Wesley Bosuben played his hearts out to emerge the overall winner in the Inaugural East Africa Tea Trade Association (EATTA) golf tournament played at the Mombasa golf club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
The home golfer who is also a member of Kericho golf club playing off handicap 26 carded a sterling 44 stable ford score points to carry the day’s lead beating a team of 120 players who struggled across the strong monsoon winds across the Sea-Link course.

Bosuben’s victory came after rolling 8 level pars on top of sinking a rare single birdie on hole 17 par 5, and additional mixed pot of bogey shots on the rest of 18 holes that made the golfer to the top leaderboard.
“Thank you all to the team that put on this successful tournament. I woke up early in the morning and drank a lot of tea to get fully charged and well powered. In fact, I did not realize whether I was winning this tournament but it was a combination of factors and of course the power of tea always brings out the best. The wind was also strong but the course was playing well, being green and well maintained,” said Bosuben.
The daylong 18 holes’ tournament that was also supported Stanbic Bank, RTW Shipping & Logistics, Bags and Balers, Maersk and Chaigold and held for the first time.
Handicap 23 John Mugo was the men winner on 42 points while handicap 15 Sam Muraya with 40 points and handicap 28 left handed Peter Cheruiyot on 39 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.

The club’s former Lady Captain and Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Coast representative Gladys Kasi playing off handicap 24 carded 41 points to win the Ladies title beating handicap 32 Jackline Mutahi to the runners up spot on a 4 points difference and handicap 34 Monica Kamundi was third with 36 points.
Francis Muthamia playing off handicap 18 who is also the club’s vice chairman brought 30 points to win the Sponsor’s prize.
Handicap 12 Tirus Githaiga emerged the best tea golfer on 38 points while handicap 29 Peter Kibanya brought 35 points to claim the high handicapper prize.
Thika greens golf resort’s Ndiga Kithae playing off handicap 11 went back home after being declared the best guest winner with 31 points as Nyali’s handicap 28 Peter Wambari on 31 points and Muthaiga’s’ handicap 23 Wilfred Githua with on 27 points claimed the runners up and third slots respectively.
The Junior prize was scooped by handicap 7 Fidel Wasike with a score of 37 points while Jason Mwai emerged the Longest drive man winner.
Mary Naneu won the same for the lady’s and Wilfred Achila was the nearest to the pin winner.
Club Chairman Lawrence Odhiambo expressed his gratitude to everyone including the main sponsor EATTA, saying it has been a fantastic day full of golf, laughter and camaraderie on the beautiful course and hoped all enjoyed every moment on and off the course.
“Your enthusiasm and sportsmanship have truly made this event special and the organizers for their hard work in making the day possible. Golf is not just a game, it offers numerous benefits that can enhance both our professional and personal lives, “noted Odhiambo.
The Chairman further pointed out that the golf course serves as a wonderful backdrop for building relationships, strengthening partnerships and promoting team work and the relaxed atmosphere by the Sea-Link creek encourages open dialogue.
“This allows us as golfers to discuss Industry insights and innovative ideas in a more informal setting and also provides opportunity for networking, additionally golf promotes well-being , encourages physical activity, mental focus and strategic thinking, all which are essential in our fast paced Industry and so we shall enjoying the game of golf, connect with one another and strengthen our bonds and remember it’s often said that the best deals are often struck on the golf course, “said Odhiambo.
The tournament was also graced by the presence of EATTA Chairman Abdi Hussein, Managing Director, George Omuga, Director Dr. Alice Kithika and others.
