GOLF NEWS-East Africa elite lady players set for the much anticipated ladies Coast open from Monday.

-The Coastal circuit featuring ladies from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, takes place from Monday 4th to Saturday 9 th, August at Malindi, Vipingo Baobab, Diamond Leisure, Mombasa and Nyali golf courses.

An estimated 180 elite lady golfers from the East Africa region are set for the much anticipated 2025 Ladies Coast open golf tournament in a five days’ tournament for the Coastal circuit, taking place from Monday 4th to Saturday 9 th, August.
The competitions will be staged in multiple course venues at Malindi Golf Club, Vipingo Baobab Ridge, Diamonds Leisure Lodge, Mombasa Golf Club and Nyali Golf and Country Club.

Malindi golf club course will be the first host on Monday, then action moves to Vipingo Baobab course on Tuesday.

They take a before rest on Wednesday in readiness for another battle at the Diamond Leisure course in Kwale County on Thursday.
Malindi Club Lady Captain Fiona Thomson said the club is excited to be the first venue for Open circuit and that preparations are well underway way.
“The course is beautifully green, not without some challenges, although our recent resident hippo appears to have moved on to pastures new, a relief for some. Up-country members will not only enjoy the warm weather but the warm welcome awaiting them. Ocean Beach resort has kindly offered to cater the evening dinner. We will be having live scoring for our event and we are really looking forward to meeting everyone, “said Thomson.

The ladies will then pitch camp on Friday at the Sea- link Mombasa course in Mombasa County on Friday.

The final 18 holes, follows on Saturday at the Nyali golf and Country club course also in Mombasa County where the Lady Captain Hilda Mugure said the club is ready and the course playing well.
Organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), this tournament is a significant tournament for women’s golf in Kenya and the East Africa region.
It is part of the ongoing Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) series with support from various corporates and has attracted players from across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Malindi’s last leg  defending champion Mercy Nyanchama of Njoro golf club is expected to defend the title for the second year running.
Nyanchama was also the tournament’s overall gross defending champion, winning three of the five legs after grabbing the Mombasa Cup in the fourth leg at the Sea-link Mombasa golf club and the final round at Nyali Golf and Country Club.
“l am playing coast ladies open. I am well prepared for the coast ladies open. I am hoping to play well despite the wind and also being hot I will manage,” said Nyanchama
She is expected to face stiff challenges from among others Nyali’s Mary Kandu, Margaret Njok (Golf Park), Alysa Jamal (Nyali), Susan Stokes (Nyali), Esther Chumo (Eldoret), Glady’s Kasi (Mombasa), Janet Wasike (Kericho) and Tanzania’s Neema Olomi among others.
Current Coast top lady golfer Kandu from Nyali said “I have been working on my short game, so I am ready for the Coastal Circuit. I am playing all courses, expect my name on the leaderboards.”
The Vipingo overall winner Naomi Wafula who recently turning professional and Uganda’s Martha Babirye who was the 2023 overall gross winner will all be absent.
KLGU Coast representative Gladys Kasi said they are excited to host the open which and are well prepared with all the courses currently in very good conditions.
She pointed out that all the club venue lady captains are also prepared, ready and welcomes all the ladies from the region to come enjoy golf and also the warm hospitality of the coast.
“We are all looking forward to a week full of fun and beautiful swings. This tournament will be amazing, it will prove a significant milestone in the history of the sport in Kenya and work to motivate the next generation of young female players throughout the country,” said Kasi.
Kasi thanked the Coast Lady Captains who have worked round the clock to ensure everything went on well as planned ensuring that no stone was left behind as players expected to arrive before end of the weekend.
The Coast Lady Golf Captains include Fiona (Malindi Golf Club), Betty Bundotich (Vipingo Ridge Golf Club), Caroline Mokaya (Diamonds Leisure Golf Club), Susan Mwangi (Mombasa Golf Club), and Hilda Mugure (Nyali Golf & Country Golf Club).
