GOLF NEWS-Green Zone team crowned winners of the main 2025 Eileen Belcher’s champions at Royal Nairobi.

Green Zone was crowned the 2025 Eileen Belcher Champions in the 86th Edition of the annual Eileen Belcher golf tournament that finalized at the par 72 at Royal Nairobi Golf Club Course in Nairobi County over the weekend.
The Zone Team Captain by Nancy Wairimu, collected a round total of 14 points to clinch the main trophy in the A Division for those players with handicap index + to 13.5.

The Division had players from Muthaiga, Limuru, Kiambu, Naivasha, Nakuru, GRVL and Njoro.

This Trophy was introduced in 1937 as an Inter District match play competition over 54 holes by Eileen Belcher who was the first Chairman of Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU).

They played through format zones of Red, Green, Yellow and Blue, divided into 3 divisions A, B and C to include more clubs and players from across the country.
The Sinclair Quaich trophy played in Division B catergory, donated by Mary Sinclair who was KLGU Chairman in 1984 was won by Blue zone on 17 points with players of handicap index 12.0 to 19.9 featuring team ladies from Royal, Railway, Nyali, Mombasa, Leisure, Vipingo, Eldoret, Kitale and Nandi Bears.
Blue Zone team survived narrowly to win the Division C category for The Palmer Trophy through a match play, where it beat Green Zone in the first play-off hole after both ended on a normal way tied on 13 points each.
The Zone had players playing off Handicapp of index 20.0 to 30.0 from Royal, Railway, Nyali, Mombasa, Leisure, Vipingo, Eldoret, Kitale and Nandi Bears.
This trophy was presented by Edward Palmer, Eileen Belcher’s younger brother in 1982, when his daughter Susan Harworth was KLGU Chairman.
The Tournament convened by Mukami Wangai was organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) and is among its ongoing calendar of events for this year.
KLGU Chairman Rosemary Mkok said the history behind the Trophies is a reflection of past leadership of KLGU and thanked the ladies for the success of the tournament, saying the Union will continue supporting ladies’ sections in affiliated clubs around the country to improve their standard.
“We as a Union takes pride in thanking everyone who has put everything in place to ensure they enjoyed the game, networking, the Course and returns home with good memories, “said Mkok.
This prestigious tournament was originally known as the Inter District Cup and the cup was presented by Ms Eileen Belcher in 1937, who was the first Chairman of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), to encourage match-play between the districts.
Over the years the format has changed and currently the competition is played in Four Zones with each zone made up of several golf clubs forming a team of three pairs, with standby pair and each zone lead by a zone convener.
Division A Eileen Belcher Trophy 2024 was won by Yellow Zone with 13 points represented by Emma Pennington & Mercy Nyanchama beating Blue Zone (Kellie Gachaga & Maria Torrado) on the 7th hole sudden death playoff at Muthaiga Golf Club.
While Division B Sinclair Quaich trophy was won by Red Zone with 12points and Division C Palmer trophy was won by the Green Zone with a total of 13points.
Over the years, the format has changed and today the competition is played in four Zones with each made up of several clubs forming a team of three pairs, with one reserve.
The competition is 54 holes with 96 ladies playing foursomes match play off-scratch for all the three divisions.

Division B-Sinclair Quaich trophy winners.
Blue-17 points, Yellow-13 points, Red-10 points, Green-8 points.

Blue -13 points-first play-off hole, Green-13 points, Red-12 points, Yellow-10 points.
