Lawyer Ushwin Khana survived on a two way count back to grab victory in the Britam Golf Series, Nyali leg Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf & Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 22 Khana carded a count back score of 41 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner, beating a team of 216 Golfers featuring players from the home Club, Coast Golf Clubs, Staffs and others across the Country with valid handicaps.
The home Club’s Khana thanked the sponsor Britam, the Club an all his playing partners for the success of the day’s tournament, saying he was indeed humbled.
“To be standing here as the overall winner after many months, is a big surprise and a great honor.
I’d like to dedicate this win to my family who supports me, to all the golfers here and my caddy for reading the greens well and keeping me calm. The course was in great condition, the organization was smooth and you made the day very enjoyable for all of us. Golf is a tough game and to come out on top today, I was lucky, but also had to fight for every shot. The competition was very strong and I didn’t come here expecting to win overall, but just to enjoy the game, enjoy the company and enjoy Nyali.

Hellen Wanjiru playing off handicap 24 also survived on a count back score of 41 points to win the lady’s prize after tying with runners up placed handicap 21 Florence Karimi and taking the third slot on 39 points was handicap 23 Alice Wahome.
Handicap 24 Ijaz Sheikh on 37 points and handicap 30 Niall Chauhan with 39 points were the senior and junior winners respectively.
The Staff prize on 34 points was won by handicap 17 Edward Kuria while Ndegwa Thuku playing
handicap 12 carded 38 points to walk home with the guest prize and handicap 16 Sandra Githere of Mombasa Golf Club brought 39 points to win the Coastal Clubs prize.
David Kabacia playing off handicap 32 on 39 points won the high handicappers men prize and the same for the lady was claimed by Farida Saeed who had a score of 27 points, but the prize was redrawn to the Captain’s kitty.
