GOLF-Junior Golfer Muigua beats seniors to win the 2023 Trans Nzoia Open at Kitale and Pandit floors them in NCBA Tourney at Windsor;

Nineteen years Golfer Elvis Muigua from Kiambu Golf Club beats Senior Golfers to emerge the overall winner of this year’s Trans Nzoia Open Golf Championship played at the par 73 Kitale Golf club course over the weekend.

Muigua carded  an excellent  total of 226gross  from the three day’s  tourney  that ended on  Sunday  to be  crowned  the  Champion  with a winning cash purse money of Ksh.81,000.

The Boy’s journey to victory kicked with a two over par 75 gross in the first day, carded a six over par 79 in the second day and showed his true colors in the third final day adding an excellent one under par 72 gross.

“This is a great victory for me. I played without any stress and with great support from Club, friend’s family and God, it was possible to claim victory, “said Muigua.

Kenya Golf Union (KGU) organized the tourney which is among the ongoing 26 Golf series being played across the Country and will culminate in the grand finals at the Coast where the overall winner will be named and Crowned.

Godfrey Nsubuga from Mehta Golf Club in Uganda struggled for second place after returning a total of 227 gross from 77, 77 and 73 gross in the three days and bagged Ksh.48, 000.

Vet Lab’s Ebill Omollo with a combined total of 231gross came third winning himself Ksh.32, 000.

KGU Vice Chairman and Tournament Director Philip Ochola thanked the Amateurs, Sponsors and the Club for making the event successful and enjoyable.

“As a Union we are happy to host the event here which has been very successful and looking forward for the same in the coming series, “said Ochola.

He announced  that the Amateurs should now continue preparing  for the next event scheduled  to  be held at the Kenya Railways  Golf club  course in the Capital City of Nairobi for the Railways Invitational tourney  from 6th to 7th May before moving to  Njoro  Golf Club  for  the Ronald Marshal & Toby Gibson Cup tourney  from 20th  to 21st May.

The 2023 NCBA Golf Series came to a thrilling conclusion over the weekend at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club with over 150 golfers braving the cold weather to compete for slots to play at the Series’ Grand Finale later this year.

In a highly competitive field, Abhishek Pandit emerged as the overall gross winner with an impressive score of 79 gross, earning a slot in the Grand Finale.

Avnish Bhandari took home the Men’s Category title with 80 gross points on count back, with Gary Zeller as the Men’s category runner-up, also with 80 gross.

Phyllis Kimbo emerged as the Women’s winner with 95 gross, with Rahab Karoki as the Women’s category runner-up with 99 gross. Meanwhile, Nathan Kania was the juniors’ category winner with 104 gross.

At the same time, in the Nines challenge, Sam Koda emerged as the star in the first nine with 41 gross, while Alishan Merali was the back nine winner with 40 gross.

In other results, Akshay Chandaria emerged as the Men’s longest drive challenge winner while Rahab Karoki was the Women’s longest drive challenge winner.

Aly Popat was the Nearest to the pin challenge winner, while Arnold Kipkoti won the Staff category with 95 gross.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, NCBA Group Director of Corporate Banking John Okulo said,

The NCBA Golf Series is a platform for golfers to showcase their talent, and we are proud to support the growth and development of the sport in Kenya. We believe that initiatives such as this help to promote talent and excellence, and we are committed to continuing our support for the golfing community in Kenya,” said Okulo.

The NCBA Golf Series is fully sponsored by NCBA Bank and features 16 senior’s qualifier events held across the East African region and a junior’s tournament that will be held at Coast.

Following the Windsor event, the series will resume on 27th May 2023 at Thika Sports Club.
