German based Kenyan lady golfer Joyce Masai’s effort to combine holidays and playing golf at last paid off after emerging the overall winner in the club nite golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali golf and country club course in Mombasa county on Thursday.
Playing off handicap 11 Masai currently on holiday at her Mombasa home after a brief escape from the current cold weather in Germany, carded an excellent count back score of 38 points to clinch the title.
“Oh my God, currently Germany and whole Europe is very cold, Iam here with my family for a short holiday in our Mombasa home and have been playing golf here at my Nyali home club. Success never comes easy, patience and hard work are the key. I have invested money and time in golf and am starting to see the fruits, and humbly grateful for the success, “said Masai.
Masai who was the Club’s former lady captain had tied on the same score with runners up placed handicap 22 Suresh Hirani while handicap 20 Harsimran Kaur claimed the third spot on 37 points.

William Odeck playing off minus 2 handicap was the gross winner on a four over 75 gross while Mombasa golf club’s handicap 10 Joel Mochanga brought 38 points to win the best guest prize and the high handicappers prize on 42 points was swept by handicap 30 Engineer Willis Ingari.
The first nine on 20 points and second nine with a count back score of 20 points winners were handicap 9 Rafiq Daya and handicap 22 Peter Maina respectively.
The day long 18 holes stable ford tournament supported by the Club attracted attracted 100 golfers.

Club Captain Omar Lewa thanked the golfers for making the tournament successful and urged them to register in large numbers for the January Mug, and Mug of mugs tournaments being played on Saturday,8th, March,2025.

Hilda Mugure, the club’s lady Captain also appealed to the ladies to avail themselves massively for the Ladies Medal and the Ladies winners medal tournament also being played on Saturday,8th, March,2025.

Equally the newly elected club Chairman Jayne Githere praised the members for honoring her with the post and promised to work hard to take the club to the next level.
“Iam really humbled and together with all your support and now the sky will be the limit for the club. This is our club, let’s do what supposed and requires us to be done and try to get all things better than we found. All these needs unity and massive support from members and Board of Directors. Thank you all,” said Githere.
