Home Club’s A.J.Molu took home advantage course to beat Colleagues in the Maiden Andy Golf Pro Shop February Mug Golf Strokes play competition played on Saturday at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County.
The handicap 11 Molu returned an eight over par 79 gross to emerge the Best gross winner which also gave him the Division A category victory on 68 nett.
“It gives me great pleasure to make my first podium appearance this evening signaling a brighter season for me after this maiden Victory. It was a good day though playing in an extreme sunny heat by my four ball partners and the excellent course made me play well today and now there is no turning back .Thank You Sponsors, The Club and fellow golfers for making this day successful, “said Molu.
Andy Golf Pro Shop sponsored the the daylong 18 holes tournament that brought together some 127 golfers from the home club and others from other Coast golf clubs and across the Country.
Handicap 12 Joseph Oluoch claimed the runners up slot in the same category with 69 nett while handicap 9 Martin Ombura was third on a count back score of 70 nett
The B division was won by handicap 17 Ian Marshall with a count back score of 74 nett after tying with runners placed handicap 18 Andrew Miheso and taking the third slot on a countback score of 75 nett was handicap 18 Sanjeeve Khagram.
Dan Mugambi playing off handicap 20 was the C Division winner on 67 nett beating handicap 20 John Smith to the runners up with a single nett difference and handicap 20 Raajkamal Dhanjal brought 69 nett to sit third.
The D division title on 69 nett was handicap 38 Nitin Pandya while handicap 32 Michael Sangoro on 71 nett and handicap 4 Kalamu Choyo were the runners up and Best Caddy winners respectively.
The Club’s former Lady Captain Mary Kandu playing off handicap 11 dominated the Ladies medal taking the Best Gross title on 82 gross and the Division A prize with 71 nett.
The runners up slot on 72 nett was won by handicap 17 Terezia Odoo while the Club’s Lady Captain Mary Mariga playing off handicap 18 was third on a score of 76nett.
Handicap 22 Zaituni Mohamed won the B division with a two way count back score of 74 nett tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 25 Alice Wahome and third placed handicap 23 Hilda Mugure.
Juliet Winja went home with the C Division prize after carding 73 nett and the Best putter of the day on 31 putts was Rose Kinyanjui.
Club Vice-Captain Allan Mola and Lady Captain Mary Mariga expressed great gratitude to the sponsor and urged golfers to continue training more in readiness for the upcoming busy season scheduled to start from early February.
Director of Andy Golf Pro Shop Andrew Miheso flanked by his Co-Director Dr Brenda Khakoni expressed their utmost gratitude to all the players for making the tournament a great success.
They said that Andy Golf Pro shop opened its doors in Mombasa since 2021 as a branch of the business in Nairobi and faced challenges but they remained focused and withered the storms.
“It has been three years and we have continued to grow in leaps, bounds and we can only return our gratitude first and foremost to the Almighty God for his favor and Grace and secondly to our Patrons who have continued to support our business. We commit to continue meeting your golfing needs by ensuring that we provide quality golfing apparels at affordable prices, “said Miheso.
They also took the opportunity to unveil the Andy Golf Pro Shop Coast Golf Series that will soon be playing at Nyali, Mombasa Sea front ,Diamond Leisure and Malindi Golf Courses.
And at Thika Greens Golf Resort in the same day, though golfers missed a hole in one for a brand new Car , handicap 19 Paul Masai carded 70 nett to emerge the Man winner of the Captain’s (Henry Kinyua ) golf tournament that beating a team of 250 golfers.
The daylong event was jointly sponsored by the Kingdom Bank, Amica, Corteva, Yara, Simba Corporation, Elgon Kenya, Densey, Golfmax and EABL among others.
The Lady winner on 69 nett was handicap 27 Magdalene Mbugua while handicap 22 Dr.Florence Wambui claimed the runners up sot on 70 nett .
Susan Kagundu playing off handicap 39 was the Subsidiary winner on 73 nett and the Best effort prize on 81 nett was won by handicap 49 Naomi Njeri.
