Martin Irungu could not believe being the best golfer of the day during the Inaugural Megna Homes golf tournament played at the Sea-Link par 71 Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The handicap 15 Irungu rounded up the 18 holes tournament on an excellent score of 39 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner of the tournament sponsored by Megna Homes e beating a team of 150 golfers.

His win came after sinking a lone birdie at the par four-eleventh hole with additional total of nine level pars against a mixed bag of bogey shots in the rest of the 18 holes for 21 and 18 points on both nines to claim the top prize.
“I played with less bogey shots,all went well with my putting on point. Iam delighted to be here this evening blessing this podium for the first time after many months. It was also a good day playing good golf with good partners around a pristine course despite the heavy strong winds. Thank you for organizing this tournament including the sponsor and I hope to retain the same title next year,” said Irungu.


Handicap 22 Danson Mutero was the men winner on 37 points while handicap 7 Martin Ombura narrowly secured the runners up slot after surviving on a count back score of 36 points against handicap 23 Wildred Achila who was third with the same score. But Ombura yet bagged another prize after emerging the day’s best gross winner on a seven over par 78 gross.

Kenya Navy lady golfer handicap 17 Grace Kwamboka scooped the lady title on 36 points beating her colleague handicap 22 Orpha Wamaitha to the runners up spot on a two points difference while handicap 19 Prisca Jebet brought 29 points to sit third.


Bernard Kotonya playing off handicap 21 was the guest winner on 40 points while handicap 13 Edwin Kiptoo scooped the first nine prize with his 20 points and the Club’s Chairman Paul Munyao playing off handicap 18 went home smiling with the second nine winner’s prize after recording 18 points.

Club Chairman Paul Munyao said the club was happy to host Megna homes and requested that the tournament be held annually among the Club’s golfing calendar.

Megna Homes Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Badhawy assured the club that the tournament will be held again next year in a bigger way noting that everyone enjoyed a good round and that it was a perfect opportunity to connect and learn more about their premium, but affordable properties.


He explained that Santana Project coming up by Megna Homes is situated in Mtopanga, Kisauni in North Coast of Mombasa where it is the largest and most populated constituency in Mombasa with a remarkable 95% tenant occupancy rate, making the area that promises high demand and excellent rental prospects.

Elsewhere at the Machakos Country club course on the same day, handicap 11 Victor Mutwi secured the men winner’s prize after carding a total of 39 points in the Fairway fanatic tournament beating handicap 13 Paul Kyengo to the runner’s slot on a single point difference.
Jane Kiiti playing off handicap 27 was the lady winner with 40 points and the runner up slot was scooped by handicap 14 Nancy Kariuki who had a score of 38 points.
The guest prize was won by handicap 32 jackline Wambui with a score of 41 points while handicap 45 Francis Ngunga on 40 points and handicap 43 Judith Kimeu with 36 points were the high handicap men and high handicap lady winners respectively.
