GOLF NEWS-The annual Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship kicks off at Vetlab Sports Club;

-NCBA Nandi Bears Open Shield attracts 74 Top Amateur Golfers and over 200 Golfers to grace Uganda Golf Day in Muthaiga, Nairobi, Kenya;

Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) brings together Kenya’s top lady golf amateurs to face off with their regional colleagues in this year’s annual Kenya ladies open amateur stroke Play championship being staged at Vetlab sports club in Nairobi, Kenya.

The three days tournament starting from today Friday 4th, October and running to Sunday 6th, October is a54-hole event organized by Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU).
It’s also a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event that has attracted 62 lady golfers from different clubs around the country and others from Uganda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.


The Strokeplay defending champion Iddy Madina from Tanzania will be on the field to defend her title alongside Kenya’s elite amateurs that includes Naomi Wafula, Joyce Wanjiru, Mercy Nyanchama, Margaret Njoki, Kellie Gachaga, Muthomi Kanana, Bianca Ngucu and Belinda Wanjiru among others.

Other Elite players from the visiting countries include Riyaz Somji from Tanzania, Komogusha Judith from Uganda, Kabasweka Peace from Uganda and Amsoni Olomi from Tanzania.


Trophies to be won are the Mary Neville trophy for those below handicap 9, the Dolan Bowl for handicap 9 to 17 and the Mary Wambugu Trophy in the division B for handicappers 29 to 33 category.

Elsewhere, Adds Douglas Mwale, IMG Kenya Limited, The NCBA Nandi Bears Open Shield is set to take place from Friday October 4th to 6th, at the Nandi Bears Golf Club and has attracted 74 talented amateur players from across the country.

The tournament will feature a competitive field, with notable players to watch including home player Nelson Koech, Elly Barno, Ebill Omollo from Vet Lab Sports Club, and Daniel Kiragu from Muthaiga Golf Club among others.
The tournament will be without the top four players in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) rankings namely Michael Karanga, John Lejirma, Elvis Muigua, and Adel Balala.
These players will be representing Kenya in the Africa Region IV Championship, taking place simultaneously from Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 6th October in Kigali, Rwanda.
The NCBA Nandi Bear Open Shield aims not only to crown a champion but also to promote the sport of golf across the region.
NCBA Bank and other local sponsors have sponsored the event that seeks to provide a platform for golfers to showcase their skills while encouraging participation at all levels.
The Prize Money for the event is set at Ksh. 400, 000, where the winner will walk away with Ksh. 92,500.

“This is one of the ongoing 28 events in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) 2024 Calendar organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) and sponsored by NCBA which counts to Golfer of the Year award and offers a platform for golfers to earn points to the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR),” he added.
And adds Brian Jaysins, Oxygene PR, the lush 18-hole par 71 Muthaiga Golf Course is expected to host 220 elite golfers from Nairobi and Uganda for the Uganda Golf Day tournament this Saturday.
The KCB-sponsored event will feature members of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Uganda National Oil Corporation, heads of diplomatic missions, sponsors, influential business leaders and stakeholders where action is expected to get underway from 6:30 am.
Speaking ahead of the event, Muthaiga Golf Club Captain BO Ciera said, “We are honored to host a high-profile event that will see top players from the country and Uganda compete for the top prizes. This event will showcase the value of partnership and competition at the course that is in good shape. We have consistently worked on our course to ensure that it gives the players an opportunity to display their skills. I am looking forward to the much-awaited event.”
Action will tee off at 6:30 am for the morning tee before the 12:30 pm afternoon tee as golfers competes for various prizes.
