GOLF NEWS-Mombasa Golf Club’s ladies team crowned the Coast Inter Club winners at Malindi;

Celebrations broke into the Malindi Golf Club after Mombasa Golf Club’s Ladies Team were crowned the winners of the Coast Ladies Inter Clubs Golf Champion played at the Club’s 9-hole Course in Kilifi County over the weekend.

The team joined by the Club Captain Francis Muthamia,Vice-Captain George Mokaya,Member Joseph Kitema among others joined the Ladies in dances and songs celebrating the victory.

The ten members ladies Team paired into twos led by their Lady Captain Fiona Mbandi claimed the ‘Roll pin trophy’ after amassing a combined total of 208 points from the five pairs of the players to emerge the overall team winners on 41.6 average points.
The team which recorded their sixth title in the tourney that was launched since 2016 composed of players Diana Nthiwa/Jackie Mutahi (40 points), Carol Munyi/Susan Mwangi (35 points), Orpha Wamaitha/Grace Kwamboka (44 points), Maarifa Mesaidi/Prisca Jebet (44 points) and Monica Kamundi/Faith Muteti (45 points).

Team Lady Captain Fiona Mbandi flanked by the Club Captain Francis Muthamia and Vice-Captain George Mokaya among others thanked the ladies for their dedication in training, committing to participate and bring the trophy home.

She also thanked the convener past Club lady Captain Gladys Kasi, who has tirelessly been organizing the team and the club for facilitating transport to Malindi and back for the Mombasa team.
“We are Mombasa Golf Club lady golfers, off course, when we hit the course, we don’t just swing clubs, and we dominate them. The original roll pin trophy, once a fierce match play battle between Mombasa and Nyali, now stands as a symbol of our dominance. This latest victory marks the beginning of a new era of our golf supremacy. But the journey doesn’t end here .In October 2024, we’re coming for that trophy once again, “said Mbandi.
Diani’s Diamond Leisure Golf Resort’s Ladies team who are the event’s two times winner and defending Champion, this time came second on average 40.5 points from a total of 162 points divided by four pairs of the players.
The team were led the Lady Captain Carol Mokaya/ Eva kariuki (44 points), Lucy Omulo/Chry Bush (43 points0, Pauline Nduva/Kerry Venturini (38 points) and Silvia Kampa/Getrude Mwendah (37 points).
Host Malindi were third on 40.4 points from a total of 283 points divided by seven pairs of players.
The players were Franca Gorini/Victoria Sabwa (38 points), Eunice Kamau/Fiona Thompson (48 points), Zipporah Gitonga/Maria Giada (50 points), Reila Islam/kate Mwikali (41 points), and Silvana Franciolli/Agnes Partesi (22 Points0, Luigina Bernini/Susan Waithaka (37 points) and Benedine Jebitok/Njambi Wasige (47 points)
Nyali Golf and Country Club Team who will be hosting the next event in October this year settled for the fourth place on 38.2 points from a total of 191 points divided by five pairs of players.
The players were Pettie Kalee/Susan Stokes (38 points), Teresia Odoo/Regina Kaveke (36 points), Truphena Oyaro/Gladys Mweni (40 points), Lady Captain Mary Mariga/Hilda Mugure (37 points) and Navinder Kaur/Harsimran Kaur (40 points).

Host Malindi Lady Captain Hamida Chidagaya thanked her friends for the sponsorship and expressed excitements with the ladies showing up in great numbers, making the event successful, pomp and colorful all over the Course.
“The ladies were really happy, the food was good, the course was in good shape and the event was well organized not forgetting the hospitality was top notch. Infact all the ladies put their best foot forward in the game and the best team won, “said Chidagaya.
The Interclub formed by Coast lady Golfers to unite the Ladies and also improve the game has evolved into a thrilling 5-club tournament including Vipingo, Malindi, Nyali, Leisure, and Msa golf club who has won it sixth times.
Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa County will be the Next host in October this year at a date yet to be agreed.
