GOLF NEWS-Over 200 Players Grace KCB East Africa Golf Tour at Thika sports;

-KCB’s long-standing tradition of sponsoring major sporting events in the country has seen the Bank pump millions of shillings in sponsorships over the years.

The 18-hole Thika Sports Club will host over 200 golfers in the penultimate leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour this weekend as players continue to book their slots in the tour’s grand finale slated for December 6, 2024.

The 11-month long series has seen action head to Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Nyeri, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Kisii, Kakamega, Kisumu, and Machakos. In the East African region, Burundi and Tanzania have also fielded a tournament each.


Thika Sports Club Captain Moses Gatonye said, “We are preparing for Saturday’s amateur tournament where we expect over 200 golfers to be part of the event. Thika has become a hub for corporate golf events, our course is in good shape and can host many players. For sure, it will be a competitive tournament and I cannot wait to see who will emerge victorious.”

Action will get underway at 6:30 am for the morning tee before the afternoon tee set for 12:30 pm where longest hitting Scola Onsongo, Millicent Melo, Tim Kuria, John Okulo, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo and other top amateur players will clash at the lush course.


KCB Group Director Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru said, “KCB’s involvement in golf has never been in question. In the last two decades, we have spent over KShs. 400 million in support of different competitions. Additionally, this investment has been instrumental in allowing golfing enthusiasts to participate in local, regional, and international events to position Kenya on the global map as a golfing destination.”

The club that produces the winning team at the end of the series will receive KShs.1 million towards a sustainability initiative that the club is currently undertaking.
They will also get an opportunity to participate in the 2025 Magical Kenya Ladies Open at the Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County.
On Sunday, KCB will host a junior’s clinic in the morning before a tree planting exercise in the afternoon, an initiative that is aimed at strengthening our environment conservation efforts through the series aligning with the global sustainable goals (SDGs).
KCB Bank footprint in sports support in the country is expansive and cuts across various sports disciplines.
The Bank has its sports brand assets that include the KCB Women Volleyball Club, KCB Football Club and KCB Rugby Club besides other sports including Chess, athletics, and golf.
