Time is tickling out and their hearts beating fast for the estimated 250 players all set for the 2025 Grand Finale of the ninth edition of the ICEA LION King of the Course golf series tournament to be played at the par 71 Nyali golf and country club course in Mombasa county on Saturday.
This strong representation of players representing some of the finest golfing talent from across the country, from both the Coastal and upcountry golf clubs, brings together top champions from six distinguished golf clubs namely Nyali (2024 Champion), Machakos, Ruiru Sports Club, Thika Greens, Nanyuki Sports Club and Nandi Bears.
These elite players will compete for the coveted annual prize, an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the prestigious Lekoa Classic 2026 Golf Tournament to be held in South Africa.
During last year’s grand finals at the same venue, Home Club’s Swaleh Omar emerged victorious, scoring an impressive 43 points against 258 competitors and promises to keep the flame burning and bring pride to the Coastal.
“I hope to play consistently well and shoot a low score. I’m aiming for a top-10 finish, and maybe even a podium spot. I’d love to win this tournament and take home the trophy. I’m hoping to improve my game and learn from the experience. I will just need to stay focused, execute my game plan, and see where it takes me,” Omar.
Machakos Golf Club leads this year’s delegation with 50 registered players, signaling a vibrant and competitive presence with the Club’s leg winner Julius Kioko Mutuku leading the pack.
Other top players in the tournament’s club legs this year, who will be leading their teams includes Bernard Muthuku Mutua (Thika greens), Felicity Mativo (Ruiru), Purity Githui (Nanyuki) and Michael Kuto (Nandi Bears).
With all club winners now confirmed, anticipation is high for what promises to be a thrilling and highly competitive championship in this day long 18 holes stable ford tournament.
Nyali Golf and Country Club Captain, Omar Lewa said preparation is complete and ready for the tournament expected to Strengthening Regional Engagement and Sports Leadership, further underscoring ICEA LION’s dedication to sports excellence and regional community engagement.

Highlighting the tournament’s impact, he confirmed that John Agui of Nandi Bears Grand Winner of the 2024 ICEA LION King of the Course Series represented Kenya at the 2025 Lekoa Classic in South Africa on 28th & 29th March 2025, a remarkable milestone that reflects the global opportunities the series creates for local talent.

Last year’s series overall coveted title was claimed by Nandi Bears Club’s John Agui, and winners of previous legs have had opportunities to compete internationally, such as in South Africa.
