Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W, has spearheaded free distribution of certified planting seeds in Bomani in Hongwe Ward around Mpeketoni in the County.
According to the Lamu County Communications Office press release,Lamu Governor noted that the initiative is meant to support farmers utilize their lands to increase house hold income and that the free certified maize seeds are of good quality and will boost maize production if well planted.
Governor Timamy underscored the importance of supporting small holder farmers through subsidized ploughing services, free seeds distribution and extension agricultural service and further noted that the County will be looking for investors who can partner with Lamu County to set up oil processing plant in Lamu West Sub-County.
The governor was accompanied by his Deputy H.E. Raphael Munyua, elected representatives and other top county officials.
The free distribution of the seeds will continue in all the parts of the County to ensure all farmers benefit especially during this expected rainy reason.
