GOLF NEWS-Consolata Maitha and Brian Kibanya wins the ICEA LION King of the course legs at Ruiru and Thika greens respectively.

-The ‘King of The Course’ is now in its 10th Edition, marking a 10-year tenure where the community of golfers grew during this period and is also a big deal for the series winners’ to gain qualification slots to the ‘Road to South Africa’ to play in the Lekoa Classics.


-And Kenya Clubs weekend results where Martin Ombura clinches the February Mug and Christine Ockotch claims the February Medal at Nyali as Kiplagat Kibanya goes home with the NCBA series trophy at Kericho.

Home clubs Consolata Maitha and Brian Kibanya emerged winners of the ICEA LION King of the Course golf tournaments at Thika Greens Golf Resort course in Muranga County and Ruiru Sports Club course in Kiambu County respectively last weekend.
playing off handicap 30 Maitha carded an excellent 45 points to emerge the overall winner in the third edition of the series 2026 calendar last Saturday, beating a team of 200 players drawn from the region and beyond.
“Today is a great moment for me and a massive honor, holding this trophy he courses was kind to me and I’d like to thank ICEA LION Group, this ‘King of the Course’ series is legendary and your support keeps the spirit of Kenyan golf alive. To the greenkeeper, the fairways were playing fast and the greens were true, that allowed for our positive play. The 18 holes stable ford tournament was third edition in the ongoing ICEA LION King of the course 2026 Golf calendar series where handicap 20 Duncan Kunga emerged the Men’s winner on a count back score of 43 points after tying on the same points with runners up handicap 14 Makundiuh Wandera while handicap p 12 Ngumo King’ori recorded 41 points for third place.
Ruth Kamau playing off handicap 14 survived to carry the Lady’s title with a count back score of 41 points, same points with runners placed handicap 25 Catherine Kameme.
The Guest winner with 41 points was handicap 17 N. Macharia with handicap 21 Nimrod Macharia taking up the runners up slot on 40 points.
Handicap 30 Mitchel Ngina recorded 41 to win the Junior winner prize while handicap 15 Alex Machocho on 39 points and handicap 33 Peter Mukuria with 38 points were the Senior and Staff winners respectively. on 41 points.

And at the Thika Greens course last Friday, the curtain raiser tournament being the second leg of the series after the first one held at Machakos Golf Club on January,3rd, saw handicap 24 Brian Kibanya record 45 points to clinch the top spot.
Dr. Munene Mutume playing off handicap 10 brought 42 points to carry the Member winner’s prize while handicap 31 Alice Gicharu with 41 points and handicap 20 Steve Njoroge’s 4O points place them as runners up and third respectively.
The Guest prize on 43 points was won by handicap 20 Isiah Nderitu but on a count back score after tying on the same points with runners up laced handicap 21 Bernard Waweru.
Josephine Ndiho playing off handicap 36 was the lady winner on 41 points and handicap 17 Njeri Kamau brought 38 points for the runners up slot.
Handicap 20 Anthony Muturi went home with the Guest prize after recording 36 points while F.N. Thuo playing off handicap 13 carded 29 points to win the Senior prize as handicap 32 Peter Gichuro on 46 points and handicap 51 Jaqueline Omare with 47 points emerged the subsidiary Man and Lady winners respectively.
The ICEA LION King of the Course is its 10th edition where the players were also playing to gain the 2026 qualification slots into the prestigious Road to ‘Vaal’ journey to compete with other African qualifiers for the Lokoa Classic at the Vaal de Grace Golf Estate, located on an island in the Vaal River near Parys, Free State, South Africa, about 75 minutes from Johannesburg.
ICEA LION Series Tournament Captain, Joe Mboya said they are excited for both tournaments, praised the players for the big turn out and staffs of both Clubs for maintaining the courses to excellent conditions.
“The Grand winner of the 2025 series Julius Kioko of Machakos Golf Club is scheduled to participate in the 2026 Lekoa Classic on 20th, and 21st, March 2026 at Heron Banks, Emfuleni and River Golf Estate in South Africa, “pointed out Mboya.
ICEA LION Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Philip Lopokoiyit expressed great pleasure to be back at the Clubs and noted it’s a sanctuary where passion for Golf and a commitment to excellence unite and thanked the players, the Club officials for the success of both the tournaments.
“This series is not just about golf but a celebration of excellence and a platform for meaningful engagement with our clients and stakeholders across Kenya. My sincere congratulations to all winners, and heartfelt thanks to the ‘King of the Course’ clubs that supported us throughout this journey. Your enthusiasm and commitment have made this series a phenomenal success, “said Lopokoiyit.
Following the Ruiru leg, the series will proceed to Nyeri and Nanyuki Sport Clubs on 6th and 7th, March 2026 respectively before taking a short break.
It will then head North to Kericho Sports Club on May 29th for a curtain- raising event ahead of the corporate tournament at Nandi Bears Club on 30th, May 2026.
The last leg will finally be staged at Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County on October 24th, after pitching camp at Royal Nairobi (9th, July), Karen Country Club (14h, August) and Mombasa Golf Club (23rd, October).
