Home club’s green keeper Dan Mugambi dominated his own course by emerging the overall winner in the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya (ACEK) golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The handicap 13 Mugambi who sets up the pin positions and also ensures that the course is playable to the required standard carded a brilliant carded 42 stable ford points to clinch the top spot , beating a team of 150 players in the day long 18 holes’ tournament.
“I and my team usually prepare the course, but rarely thought a greenkeeper would ever stand here as winner, but today I beat them. I also always tell players, it’s not the course, but the golfer and is a prove today. I played just like any other player but it turned out to be my day. Am grateful and looks forward to more wins, “said Mugambi.
John Orioro playing off handicap 11 played a 6 over par 77 gross to walk home as the best gross winner while handicap 18 Dr. Kibet Kikwai claimed the men winner’s slot on 40 points and the Club Chairman Michael Sangoro playing off handicap 23 was the runners up on a count back score of 39 points.

German based Kenyan Lady golfer Joyce Radtke playing off handicap 9, who is currently on a short holiday at the Coast and a member of Nyali Golf and Country club brought 38 points to emerge the lady winner beating handicap 22 Petronilah Kalee to the runners up slot by a 4 points difference.
Handicap 26 Veteran Coast golfer Ijaz Sheikh was the best senior on 39 points and the Junior title on 37 points was claimed by handicap 31 Nikki Pattni who is also a junior lady player.
Engineer Cleo Makau playing off handicap 10 beat his colleagues by carding 32 points to emerge the best Engineer with handicap 25 Engineer Willis Ingari taking the runners up slot on 29 points.
Mombasa golf club’s handicap 22 Salim Taib also did not disappoint by winning the top guest prize on a count back score of 36 points after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 13 Mike Mwirigi who is the Captain of Nanyuki Sports club.
Mohamed Nurani junior playing off handicap 51 won the high handicappers prize with 52 points while Jabess Oduor’s shot that landed 2 feet away from the 18 th hole, won him the nearest to the pin prize.
Club Captain Muzzahim Taib thanked all the players and supporters of the tournament saying it was a day of precision, patience and the occasional creative accounting on scorecards.

Our course is ever in pristine condition despite the rainy weather a, prove that the real structural integrity right there, thank you all and looking forward to see you again, “said Taib.
