GOLF NEWS-Gideon Serem plays cool to clinch overall top spot in the ICEA LION King of the course series at Nandi.

-Action now moves to Royal Nairobi course for a special Club Nite on July, 9th and Karen Country Club will be the host on August, 14th.

Gideon Serem carded an excellent 43 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner during the 5th leg of the ICEA LION King of the course Golf series played at the historic and scenic 9-hole, par-72 Nandi Bears Golf Club championship course in Nandi County on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 11, Serem was excited of the victory saying it was such a great tournament by ICEA LION Group that makes all players better Golfers.
“A win like this belongs to the people behind you, the Club, the Caddy for reading those tricky greens, the sponsor ICEA LION Group for putting on such a great tournament that makes us all better golfers, the players and my family. They say a lion leads the pride but Golf is like that, where you don’t conquer the course but survive it, hole by hole and today the course did allow me to survive a little better than everyone else. I’ll enjoy this crown and hope to be back to retain the title,” said Serem.
This tournament that featured a large field of 250 drawn from other regional clubs, including Machakos, Ruiru, Eldoret with others across the Country, started on Friday as a Club Nite at Kericho Golf Club and dubbed “Great Rift Valley swing.”
Prisca Chebet playing off handicap 28 carded 40 points to emerge the Member winner beating handicap 9 Mike Cheruiyot to the runners up slot by a single point difference while taking the third slot on 38 points was handicap 20 Boaz Sugut.
Veteran Rift Valley Region Lady golfer Irene Booker playing off handicap 17 claimed the lady’s title on 36 points ahead of handicap 18 Natalie Metto who sat to the runners up slot on 35 points.
Handicap 28 Ben Siro outplayed his colleagues by bringing home 34 points to win the guest prize while Caleb Tum playing off handicap 21 claimed the staff prize on 31 points as handicap 28 Protus Ambani on 34 points and handicap 28 James Siayi with 32 points emerged the Junior and Senior winners respectively.
Handicap 36 Alice Siro claimed the handicap Lady’s prize after carding 50 points and the same for the Men side was won by handicap 30 Victor Bett’s 40 points.
Club Captain Isaac Kuto, praised the players and the sponsor for a well-organized tournament and hopes to offer more unique golfing experience to all against the breath-taking backdrop of the Great Rift Valley Club.
“We are excited that the players displayed an outstanding performances complemented by our Club’s exceptional hospitality, entertainment, local cuisine and for which Nandi is renowned,” said Kuto.

This tournament is the 10th edition of the ongoing Country wide 12 leg series in this year’s ICEA LION King of the course Golf calendar that started at Machakos Country Club on January,3rd and is one of Kenya’s most sought-after amateur Golf series.
The series next action will be at Royal Nairobi course for a special Club nite on July, 9th and Karen Country Club will be the host on August, 14th.
And the culmination will be staged at Nyali Golf and Country Club on October 24th, where all the series winners will be seeking qualification slots to the “Road to Vaal” in South Africa.
