This year, Africa Climate Summit (ACS) and the Africa Climate Week (ACW) 2023 will take place from 4th to 8th September in Nairobi, Kenya, hosted by the Government of Kenya.
According to the latest Press release from UNEP Media desk, The inaugural Africa Climate Summit, championed by Kenya’sPresident H.E. William Ruto, aims to address the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and particularly in Africa and with the expectation of escalating climate crises in terms of frequency and intensity, urgent action is required to mitigate these challenges.

The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi will be the prestigious host venue for the Africa Climate Summit & Africa Climate Week 2023.
As an iconic landmark and a symbol of Kenya’s commitment to international cooperation, KICC provides a fitting setting for this significant event.
With its state-of-the-art facilities and ample space, KICC offers the ideal platform to accommodate the diverse range of participants, including government officials, policymakers, climate experts, businesses, civil society organizations, and international delegates.

Africa Climate Week (ACW) is an annual event that brings together leaders from governments, businesses, international organizations and civil society to explore ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while adapting to the mounting fallout from the climate crisis.
Organized in parallel with the African Climate Summit, Africa Climate Week will provide a platform for policymakers, practitioners, businesses and civil society to exchange on climate solutions, barriers to overcome and opportunities realized in different regions, leading to the first global stock take concluding at COP28 in UAE in December of this year.

The Africa Climate Week will consider four major systems based tracks with a view to providing region-focused contributions to inform the global stock take on Energy systems and industry, Cities, urban and rural settlements.
Others include infrastructure and transport, Land, ocean, food and water, Societies, health, livelihoods, and economies.
The Africa Climate Exhibition will serve as a platform to showcase global solutions, innovations, and projects aimed at mitigating climate change challenges.
Exhibitors from around the world will participate, providing an opportunity for attendees of the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week to interact, learn, and adopt practical solutions to climate change.
The Summit will serve as a platform to inform, frame, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.
During the ACS, African leaders will be called upon to make ambitious pledges and commitments, towards the adoption of a “Pledging and Commitment Framework.”
One of four Regional Climate Weeks held this year, ACW 2023 builds momentum ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in Dubai and the conclusion of the first Global Stock take, designed to chart the way towards fulfilling the Paris Agreement’s goals and provide region-focused contributions to inform the Global Stock take.
