GOLF NEWS-Britam backs four professional Kenyan players as PGK Tour season heats up.

Britam has named four professional golfers to carry its flag in the ongoing season of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour, reinforcing its support for the growth of the game across the region.
The backing of Ksh.3 million goes to support the quartet features Kennedy Abuto, Simon Njogu, John Kagiri, and Joyce Wanjiru who joins Naomi Wafula and Margaret Njoki as the only female professionals competing in the second edition of the tour.
“The PGK Equator Tour is a prestigious event because it gives players the chance to compete against some of the best golfers in the country. I am honored to be part of the Britam team and one of the few women in this year’s edition. I hope we perform well and continue pushing our game forward,” said Wanjiru.
The PGK Equator Tour is a qualifying series for Kenyan professionals seeking a place in the Magical Kenya Open, Kenya’s flagship international golf tournament on the DP World Tour calendar.

He pointed out that the company has also extended added value to the sponsored golfers by providing each of them with a Golfers’ Insurance Cover to protect them as they compete at the highly coveted tournament.
“The Inaugural Tour delivered both sporting and commercial value, giving players a stronger platform to compete while also benefiting host Clubs and surrounding businesses, ‘added Gitogo.
He further pointed out that beyond the course, the Tour has also helped stimulate activity for local hotels, transport operators, restaurants and other service providers in the host towns.
The 2026-2027 Tour calendar features 11 tournaments at some of Kenya’s leading Golf courses and after the opening two legs that have already been held at Vet Lab Sports Club and Thika Sports Club, Samuel Chege leads with a gross score of 278 gross, followed by Dismas Indiza on 279 gross and Michael Karanga on 283 gross.
Action now awaits the third leg expected to take place at Limuru Country Club from June 18th, to 21st, 2026 before the Tour moves to Nyali, Ruiru, Nakuru, Sigona, Royal Nairobi, Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort, and Diamond Leisure Beach & Golf Resort, culminating to the grand finale at a venue to be announced later.
