GOLF NEWS-Dhutia and Susan floors 133 players in the July Mugs and Medals tournament at Nyali course.

Home club’s Vishnu Dhutia and Susan Stokes floored an estimated 133 players during the July Mugs and Medals golf tournament played at Nyali golf and country club course in Mombasa county on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 12 Dhutia carded an 8 over par 79 gross while and handicap 9 Susan with a 9 over par 80 gross to claim their top spots at the par 71 course, beating a team of 133 golfers in the 18 holes’ day long tournament supported by the club.
The Division A mug category was also won by Dhutia on 67 nett, while handicap 12 John Orioro with 68 nett and handicap 11 Ally Is Haq on 71 nett count back score, were the runners up and third placed respectively.
Handicap 13 Tony Gachau played 68 nett to win the Division B prize and handicap 15 Mwamngi Mburu survived for the runners up slot with his 72 nett count back score after tying with third placed handicap 18 Brandon Oyaro.
Senior Salim Tweshe playing off handicap 23 went home happy with the Division C top prize from his 66 nett score and handicap 26 Ijaz Sheikh on a count back score of 67 nett was the runners up, tying on the same score with handicap 28 Ushwin Khana who was third.
The Division C prize was easily won by handicap 30 Eng. Willis Ingari on 65 nett as handicap 35 Wesley Mbugua with 69 nett and handicap 12 Dennis Makori on 77 nett claimed the runners up and third prizes respectively.

For the medal section, Susan Stokes was again the winner but survived on a count back 71 nett score after tying with handicap 10 Joyce Radtke who was the runners up while handicap 11 Christine Ockotch was third with a score of 75 nett.
The Club’s Lady Captain Jayne Githeri playing off handicap 27 won the Division C part with her 68 nett while handicap 24 Anne Cherop brought 70 nett for the runners up slot and taking the third slot prize was handicap 33 Daxaben Vekaria who had a score of 71 nett.
Pervis Barnsley of handicap 46 played 76 nett to win the Division C slot and handicap 18 Jane Ouma on 75 nett as Truphena Oyaro with 29 putts were the Best lady caddy and Best putter winners respectively.

Meanhwile, adds BRIAN JAYSINS-OXYGENE PR, Anthony Muigai stole the show at the IPF Golf Tournament after carding 42 points to be crowned the overall winner of the highly competitive featuring 200 players at Ruiru Sports club also on Saturday.
Muigai, playing off handicap 21, edged out a strong field that included top amateurs from Nairobi and its environs.
“It feels incredible to come out on top in such a competitive field. I had to stay focused all through, and I am proud that my consistency paid off today,” said Muigai after receiving his award.
In the men’s category, Gabriel Wabuti also registered 42 points to emerge the winner, while Terra Saidimu finished as the runner-up with 38 points.
The ladies’ contest was just as tight, with Judy Nyambura (H20) carding 41 points to lift the Ladies Winner’s trophy and was closely followed by Veronica Mwaura (H25) who finished Lady runners-up with 40 points.
The tournament also rewarded exceptional performances across different categories where Mary Wanjiku (H19) secured the Best Gross with a score of 38 gross, while Mumbi Gatu (H17) shone among the juniors, posting 36 points.
Guest players were not left behind, with Navin Shah (H19) taking the Guest Men’s prize on 38 points and Milkah Ikote (H25) clinching the Guest Ladies’ award with 37 points.
In the nine-hole contests, P.M. Mwangi (H19) won the 1st Nine Men with 21 points, while Michael Waititu (H19) secured the 2nd Nine Men prize on the same score. Among the ladies, Shobna Patel (H29) claimed the 1st Nine on 21 points, with Liz Mwaura (H29) taking the 2nd Nine, also with 21 points.
Mary Wanjiku (H19) added to her accolades by winning the 9-Hole Lady with 28 points.
In Division Two, Michael Gachanja (H36) impressed with 40 points to top the leaderboard.
The fun challenges saw Duncan Kung’u and Janet Mwangi scoop the Longest Drive Men and Ladies titles respectively, while Stephen Moche and Grace Miano proved sharp on the greens, winning Nearest to Pin Men and Ladies.
Ruiru Sports Club Captain Justus Mathenge hailed the success of the event, praising both the competitiveness and the spirit of camaraderie displayed.
“This tournament continues to grow in stature each year. The impressive turnout and competitive spirit on display today show just how much Ruiru has become a home of golf excellence,” said Mathenge.
The one-day tournament teed off at 6:30 am with a morning round and continued with an afternoon session at 12:30 pm, culminating in a prize-giving ceremony that highlighted both the sporting and social vibrancy of Ruiru Sports Club.
Ruiru Sports Club is a privately-owned corporate & family-oriented Club with an elite & culturally diverse Membership and was founded with the main goal of helping all golf players, both professional and amateur, to improve their skills.
