MAARUFU MOHAMED-GOLFNEWSLINKS;
It’s all smiles after the Scotland based Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) Scholarship has extended the application deadline to 14th May 2024 for Kenya Junior Golfers.
This is according to a media press release dated 7th, May,2024 from the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) and signed by the Union’s Hon.Secretary Chris Kinuthia.
He said the new global scholarship programme launched early this year, funded through the R&A Foundation by R&A Golf Club members, has been designed to provide a unique opportunity for up to 12 talented individuals to fulfill their career ambitions by participating in this potentially life changing leadership-focused experience.
“The scholarship programme not only provides financial support but also the chance to be connected to a community of people who share a common passion about the future of the game. Through mentorship, education and training, the programme will help scholars enhance their skills and knowledge, better enabling them to become the next generation of golf industry leaders. Whether as future agronomists, coaches, engineers, executives or innovators, our scholars will help to define the future of the game, both on and off the golf course, “stated Kinuthia.
He said this initiative is not designed to support elite amateur golfers during their academic studies-the existing R&A Foundation Scholarship scheme already provides assistance in that area, but rather to help create the strongest possible foundations for the future of our sport as a whole and develop the next generation of leaders across all areas of the sport.
Kinuthia said the scholarship programme will be promoted through the R&A’s broad global network of affiliates and other connections.
He stated that the scholarship is open to individuals aged 18-25, who already have an active interest in golf and can demonstrate an exceptional commitment and contribution to the game.
“It particularly targets those who have ambitions to contribute significantly to golf throughout their lives, including candidates interested in industry-specific education in club management, agronomy, sports medicine, journalism, technology, equipment manufacturing, etc.,” noted Kinuthia.
He further said it also targets those Volunteers actively within the golf community, demonstrate resilience in overcoming challenges or adversity and those who Serve as strong role models for their peers, friends and the younger generation by a clear demonstration of positive values such as determination, aptitude and leadership.
“I would be grateful if you would share this information with any candidates whom you think fits this profile. And feel free to encourage your own employees/network to share news of this programme with their own contacts both individuals and organizations. Please contact…….RAClubScholarship@randa.org… if you would like further information or have any queries, “said Kinuthia.
Kinuthia further said the Scholarship Applications must be received by noon (GMT) on 14 May 2024 and is also open to any Volunteer juniors across the Country.
