Juniors are breathing fire for top honors in the 4th NCBA Coast Junior Open golf tournament being played at the 18-hole par 71 Nyali Golf and Country club championship course known for its lush, tree-lined, 6,276-yard layout designed by Monty Lowry in Mombasa County.
The three days’ challenge is organized by the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), that runs from Saturday 18th, to Monday 20th April and open to all juniors all Juniors 21 years & under as of 20th April and with a handicap index of 28.0 for boys and 36.0 for girls.
Entries closed on Wednesday evening and in an invite message, JGF say the format of play is a stroke and in the event of oversubscription, preference will be given to the lower handicapped players while a cut for the top 33 and ties will be applied after two rounds.
Host JGF Coast representative Mary Mariga is delighted to welcome all to the Junior Open and is excited to bring this prestigious tournament to Nyali, following the success of last year’s tournament at the Se-Link Mombasa Golf Club.

Among the leading Coast Juniors expected to watch in various age groups includes boys, Imani Mugavana, Tonny Gichau and Mwai Mariga while girls have the likes of Angel Wangari and Nikki Pattni.
The Juniors especially those from the home club and nearby Mombasa golf club has already hit the ground with serious training eying for the top prizes.
Mugavana who recently at the same club floored veterans to grab top prize in the CBK tournament, said yesterday that with respect for the course and his fellow players, he is fully set to control the wind, the bounces, attitude and effort to emerge top.

And club mate lady junior Wangari also lamented yesterday that the eagerly awaited tournament will just need patience, honesty and how to lose with grace and win with humility.
“The tournament will not only just be about your score but who you become between the first tee and the last putt. play your game, give one shot at a time and if you hit a bad one, it’s already history. But no matter what happens, we shall be out there to have fun and make our club proud. We shall also play with courage, respect the game and remember that every champion here started as a junior just like you, “said Wangari.
Caddies have been allowed as Parents also as usual are expected to be caddying and guiding their children across the course during the tournament.
