The Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has announced the newly elected leadership team for the 2024/2025 term during its annual General meeting (AGM) on Friday at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.
The AGM, a key event in the KGU calendar, is held every year in May and brings together representatives from Golf Clubs across the Country.
The newly elected officials who will run the office until May next year are the Chairman David Ndungu of Limuru Golf Club, Vice Chairman Chris Kinuthia of Thika Sports Club and Hon. Treasurer Karugu Macharia from Windsor Country Club who were all unopposed.
Ndungu takes over from Philip Ochola while the Hon. Secretary Brian Akun from Vet Lab Sports Club won 55 votes to win against Frank Wambua of Golf Park who garnered 39 votes.
The KGU Executives who swept the six slots out of eleven includes James Gitonga from Mombasa Golf Club with the highest 75 votes, Peter Mwaura (Ruiru Sports Club) 73 votes, Jonathan Marucha (Railway Golf Club) 70 votes, Robert Ngugi (Muthaiga Golf Club) 62 votes, Weldon Mutai (Sigona Golf Club) 49 votes and Liban Roba (Karen Country Club) 49 votes.
David Ndungu, the newly elected Chairman, expressed his vision for the Union saying His commitment is to ensure that the Union continues to play its role in making one-golf a reality.
“We aim to build on proper and solid foundations that will serve the sport for years to come. We are all on the same side, and we all want the same outcome. Having different approaches to how that outcome is achieved doesn’t make us adversaries; it makes us teammates and it just means we are human, “said Ndungu.
Ndungu on behalf KGU congratulates all the elected officials and extended heartfelt gratitude to all members who participated in the election process saying their dedication and active involvement are crucial in fostering a vibrant and thriving golf community in Kenya.
KGU was formed in 1928 and is Kenya’s oldest continuous sports body which is also affiliated to the Ministry of Sports & Culture, the Royal & Ancient (RA) and also the International Golf Federation (IGF) as the representative body of the golfing sport in Kenya.
It is a union of 38 golf Clubs and 2 golfing societies in Kenya.
The Union’s objectives advancing, promoting and safeguarding the interests of the game of Golf in Kenya under the Kenya Golf Federation and to uphold and maintain the Rules of Golf and the Rules, Definitions and Interpretations of R&A Rules Limited, whose jurisdiction as the Ruling Authority in Golf is recognized by the Union.
The other main Objective is to establish, develop, maintain and administer Kenya National Handicap System and Standard Scratch Scores which all affiliated clubs shall use and supervise the administration of the Kenya National Handicap System and control the observance of the fundamental principles and regulations of the system by all affiliated clubs.
