Home Clubs handicap 2William Kaguta carded a three over par 74 gross and handicap 14 Teresia Odoo recorded 89 gross to emerge gross winners in the 2024 Mug and Medal tournament respectively in the tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Teresia, who is also the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Coast Representative said, “Discipline, intention, and passion are the motivators that drive high level performers in the Course. Also Make sure to practice your short game and just have fun.”
The 18 holes Tournament that attracted 136 players featuring various categories was organized and Supported by the Club.
The Division A Mug winner on 68 nett was won by handicap 12 Apan Shah as handicap 7 Omar Lewa on 71 nett and again handicap 2 William Kaguta taking the third slot on 72 nett.
Handicap 17 Raajkamal Dhanjal brought 71 nett to scoop the Division B category on 71 nett while second placed handicap 18 Sam Muyara displaced handicap 16 Khurram Bhat to the third place on Count back after both tied on 72 nett scores.
Dr. Kibet Kikwai playing off handicap 23 was the Division C winner on 62 nett as handicap 28 Naveed Arif with 66 nett and handicap 20 Mansoor Pirbhai on 67 nett were the second and third respectively.
The Division D section was scooped by handicap 43 Kabir Kakkar who carded 70 nett and handicap 31 Jabess Oduor returned 71 nett to claim the runners up slot.
The Best male caddy prize on 72 nett was Claimed by handicap 6 Kalamu Choyo and handicap 16 Lavin Asego with 72 nett was the Guest winner.
The Division A category for the Medal section was won by the Club’s Lady Captain handicap 19 Mary Mariga with a score of 73 nett while handicap 20 Florence Karimi on a count back score of 74 nett was the runners up after tying on the same score with third placed handicap 14 Terera Odoo.
Handicap 36 Juliet Wanja had 67 nett to win the B Division while handicap 35 Dazaben Vekaria with 70 nett claimed the runners up slot and taking the third spot on 72 nett was handicap 26 Hellen Wanjiru.
The Best Lady Caddy’s prize was scooped by handicap 26 Saina Odhiambo on 73 nett and handicap 18 Kikulu Naomi was the runners up with 74 nett count back score.
Handicap 31 Susan Mwangi brought 75 nett to win the Guest prize and handicap 26 Hellen Wanjiru was the Best Putter on count back score of 31 putts.
Elsewhere, Adds Brian Jaysins, Oxygene PR, the youthful team of Jeff Muthoki, Winston Kirimi, Kevin Kabugi and Ian Kirimi returned a combined score of 116 points to emerge the overall team winners of the 16th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the 9-hole Nanyuki Golf Course on the same day.
“I am pretty excited and grateful; it has been a long time coming. Initially the tournament was scheduled for July, that week we practiced their entire week. Just a lot of practice that has led to this moment. As they say practice makes perfect. It has been disheartening seeing old guards winning so we had to step up this weekend, “said Muthoki.
Gabriel Miungi teamed up with Club Captain Anthony Rukwaro, James Warui and Rama Maulid to claim the team runners up slot on a combined 109 points at the tourney that brought together 103 players.
Both the two teams will participate in the tour’s grand finale slated for December 6, 2024.
Handicap 31 Helen Kurutu carded 41 points to clinch the Individual overall winner and handicap 13 James Warui on 40 points was the Men winner.
Purity Githui playing off handicap 20 returned 40 points to bag the lady’s prize while handicap 11 scooped the Guest prize on 38 points.
The Staff prize was won by handicap 22 James Kinga on a count back score of 32 points beating long-hitting handicap 21 Scola Onsongo o the second slot.
The ongoing 24 leg Amateur series has so far reached over 1600 participants and over 1000 Juniors through the clinics that run concurrently with the regional Tour.
