Home Club’s William Odeck and Teresia Odoo claims the 2026 July Mug and Medal gross titles at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Odeck, playing off handicap and one the Country’s top leading amateurs registered a 3 over par 74 gross to emerge the best gross winner of the July mug while handicap 13 Teresia brought 82 gross to win lady’s best medal gross prize.
Odeck noted that he was really humbled and grateful to take home the winner’s mug saying, “What a beautiful day of play. Golf is a humbling game and today it was kind to me. In fact, we play not just to win, but for friendship. Thank you, Captain, Fellow Golfers, the organizers, green staff and everyone who made this event possible. Congratulations to all the other category winners as well. Thank you and God bless,” said Odeck.
On her part Teresia said, “Wow, I didn’t expect this. I came here to enjoy golf and maybe hit one good shot for the gram. Now I’m walking away with the Medal. Thank you to the organizers, the green keeper, for the perfect greens and to my playing partners for not laughing too loud at my bunker shots.Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone and may your drives be long and your putts be straight! To everyone who played today, well done. Let’s keep growing the game. Thank you.”
The 18 holes’ tournament that featured a total of 131 players, saw handicap 1 Vimal Ranpura claim the Division A mug prize on 69 nett while handicap 11 George Githinji on 72 nett and handicap 12 M. Walji with a count back of 73 nett were the runner’s up and third placed respectively.
Jon Stokes playing off handicap 18 survived on a two way count back score of 69 nett to win the Division B prize after tying on the same points with runners up placed handicap 15 Ian Marshall and handicap 16 Epapra lagat who was third.
Dr.J.M. Muthuuri took charge of the Division C group carding 66 nett to claim the top prize while handicap 21 Jabess Oduor was displaced to the runners up slot after posting a count back score of 70 nett, tying with third placed handicap 21 Aryan Joseph.
Ushwin Khana playing off handicap 30 toped the Mug Division C with 65 nett as handicap 33 Viaan Dodhia on 71 nett emerged runners up with Keigo Nakamura laying off handicap 17 claiming the guest prize with a cunt back score of 72 nett and handicap 5 Fredrick Oboyo bring home 71 nett to win the best male caddy prize.
In the Medal category for Ladies, handicap 13 Teresia Oddo again emerged the Division A winner on 69 nett while handicap 9 Mary Kandu on 73 nett and the Club Lady Captain handicap 16 Zaituni Mohamed with 75 nett emerging runners up and third placed respectively.
The Division B prize was won on 61 nett by handicap 35 Angel Wangari with handicap 28 Divinah Ongaki carding 67 nett to claim the runners up prize and Irene Rob playing off handicap 28 was third on 69 nett.
Gunita Patel was excited winning the Division C prize after producing 67 nett while the best caddy’s prize on 61 nett was claimed by handicap 19 Saina Adhiambo.
And handicap 18 Alice Wanjiru was he Lady guest winner with 79 nett and again Terry Oddo showed up at the podium to bag her third prize after turning out to be the best putter of the day with 28 putts.
Club lady Captain Zaituni Mohamed noted that the Ladies played with skill, patience and displayed the true spirit of golf.
