An estimated 300 players will be in action as the touristic City of Mombasa Stages simultaneous tournaments at the par 71 Nyali Golf & Country Club Course and the par 71 historic Seafront Mombasa Club on Saturday, 22nd, August,2026.
At the main land Nyali, over 200 players will be battling the fairways in the NCBA Golf Series that makes its highly anticipated stop at the coast, in the latest qualifying leg ahead of November’s Grand Finale at Karen Country Club.
While at the Seafront course of Mombasa Club in the Island, the ‘Wakwitu’ golfers group has organized the 4th annual ‘Kambasome’ tournament on the same day (Saturday).
This day long 18-hole stable ford tournament that will also be the center of action featuring around 150 players with focus to celebrate Kamba cultural heritage, networking, and unity alongside top amateurs and corporate teams.
The separate twin tournaments are expected to further cement the Coast’s status as a key golfing destination in the country.
The Nyali tournament will see golfers compete across the overall Men gross, overall Lady gross, Division two Men and Lady, Division three overall and Junior categories, with the respective winners earning qualification to the Grand Finale.
All eyes will be on gross champions William Kaguta and Mary Kandu , who lifted the overall Men and lady gross titles respectively during last year’s edition and return hoping to repeat in front of a home crowd.
For Kaguta and Kandu, the mission is simple, just to defend their crowns as the rest of the field, seeks for a chance to book an early ticket to Karen and to test themselves against one of Kenya’s most scenic but challenging layouts.

Kaguta who knows the course’s tricky greens and coastal winds better than most, said that local knowledge could be key again and remembers the roar on 18th last year noting that the winning in last year was special because it was at home, with family and friends watching from the veranda.
“Winning here last year was special because it was at home, I’ll play smart, take my pars early and attack when the weather is calm. The field is strong this year and everyone wants a slot to Karen, so I have to be at my best from the first tee. My target is to play smart, stay patient and take advantage when the chances come. Nyali is a course that punishes mistakes, especially with the wind but I’m looking forward to defending my title,” said Kaguta.

For Kandu, it’s about composure and memory and she too is familiar on dealing with the tricky greens.
“Nyali is in my backyard so I’ve played these greens a thousand times. Last year’s win gave me belief. This year the ladies’ field is deeper. If you can keep the ball below the wind here, you’re in with a shout.
Last year’s win gave me a lot of confidence. This year the competition is even tougher, but I’m ready, “said Kandu.
Nyali Golf & Country Club Captain Muzzahim Taib said the club has been working for weeks to ensure the course is in prime condition for the NCBA event, which is expected to draw one of the biggest fields of the year at the coast.
Taib who has spent the last two weeks walking the course with the greens staff at sunrise said, “We’ve got the course ready, the Greens are running, the fairways are lush and We are ready to host. Hosting the NCBA Golf Series is a big deal for us. It brings together golfers from across the country and puts Nyali on the national map again, “said Taib.
Taib added that the current Mombasa weather could play a decisive role in how scores pan out saying,
“August at the coast is interesting. Mornings are usually calm and perfect for scoring, but by midday the sea breeze picks up. We expect a competitive field from across the region. The NCBA Series is one of the biggest amateur golf circuits in the country. Having it at Nyali is a big boost for golf on the mainland. We appreciate NCBA Bank for bringing the series to Nyali. Their support continues to grow the game at the Coast. Fairways are set, players are ready. Let the NCBA Series begin at Nyali,” said Taib.
The coastal leg comes hot on the heels of the Nyahururu Golf Club event on August 8, where Cyrus Lwenyi won the overall title with a gross 78.
Simon Ngugi took Division One Men with 81 gross, Susan Hiuko won the Ladies category, with Jobsam Njoroge who claimed the Junior title and all four have now booked their places at Karen.

At the same time, the historic Mombasa Golf Club will be a beehive of activity as it hosts the ‘Kambasome’ Tournament, an event that has grown to become one of the most popular on the Coast golf calendar.
Tournament organizer Joseph Kitema, flanked by Club Captain Feisal Lasker said everything is set to ensure a successful event.
“Preparations for the tournament are at an advanced stage. We expect a full field and the course is in excellent condition to host the players.
They noted that the tournament has grown over the years with the largest numbers of players across the country and that is a key event on the Coast golf calendar.
Kitema and Lasker said the event will also help market Mombasa as a sports tourism hub and that the tournament is not just about golf but is also about promoting tourism and business in Mombasa.
“We have worked closely with Mombasa Golf Club to ensure everything is set, from registration to hospitality, we are ready to welcome all. Hosting the event at the historic seafront course adds to the prestige. We want players to enjoy competitive golf while also experiencing Mombasa. We thank our sponsors and partners for coming on board. Their support has enabled us to stage a tournament that meets national standards. The greens are ready; the field is ready. Mombasa is ready for Kambasome,” said Kitema and Lasker.
