At the Nyali Golf & Country Club in Mombasa County on Sunday, ladies extended their reign again as Everlyne Akinyi produced a stunning 41 stable ford points to clinch the overall title in the prestigious Christopher Seex Memorial Tournament.
Playing off handicap 23, Akinyi’s victory is not just any win, but cements an incredible ladies’ back-to-back dominance at Nyali.
She becomes the 5th consecutive lady to win an overall title at the Club in recent tournaments, following in the footsteps of golfing giants Susan Stokes, Joyce Kamau, Petronilah Kale and Angel Wangari, who won Saturday’s Diwali Festival, putting the Club’s men on notice at the Coast.
Akinyi was in sublime form, navigating the challenging par 71 Nyali course with maturity and precision despite the coastal humidity.
She beat a strong field of 101 players who turned up for the annual charity event organized by the Tamarind Group to celebrate 54 years of Tamarind’s a noble cause, where all proceeds from the event goes to the Vipingo Village Fund and KSPCA Mombasa, continuing the legacy of Christopher Seex.
Speaking after receiving her trophy amid ululations from the ladies’ section, a delighted Akinyi said she was honored to continue the ladies streak at Nyali.
” I just played my game, stayed patient and the putts dropped. Iam so happy and humbled. Winning at Nyali is never easy, especially with such numbers of good players. To be the 5th lady in a row to win overall, shows ladies golf at Nyali is on top. This is for all the ladies who inspire us,” said Everlyne Akinyi, the new Seex Memorial Champion.
In the best gross category, the battle of the low handicaps was fierce with handicap 5 Gurbux Singh returning an impressive 78 gross to win the Best gross Men title, while the ever-consistent handicap 12 Christine Ockotch carded 85 gross to claim Best gross Lady prize.
The runners-up positions were decided on countback drama where handicap 7 Susan Stokes, herself a recent former overall winner at the Club, showed her class with 40 points to finish runner up on countback, ahead of handicap 30 Brijesh Pattni who also posted 40 points to settle for third.
Dr. Ramadhani Omar playing off 33 took fourth place with 39 points on countback, edging out handicap 18 Aameen Dhanji who also scored 39 points to finish fifth.
The first nine prize went to handicap 34 Duncan Mitchell who won with 21 points on countback, while handicap 30 Ian Kithumbi dominated the back nine with 23 points to win the Best second nine prize.
Club Lady Captain Zaituni Mohamed who has been championing ladies golf at the Coast, could not hide her excitement at the Ladies’ continued dominance and said the performance of the Ladies is a result of deliberate investment in ladies’ golf.
“I am extremely excited! What Everlyne has done today is amazing. Five ladies in a row winning back to back overall Susan, Joyce, Kale, Wangari and now Akinyi, this is history. Our ladies are working hard, supporting each other and the results are showing. I am so proud of Everlyne and all our ladies and Nyali is now a ladies’ powerhouse, “said Zaituni.
Club Chairman Michael Sangoro praised the Tamarind Group, sponsors of the event for 54 years for blending golf with charity.
“The Group’s support for Vipingo Village Fund and KSPCA Mombasa has made the Christopher Seex Memorial more than just a tournament, but a community movement,” said Sangoro.
Players were treated to a well-manicured course, despite the October heat, and the Nyali monkeys were on their best behavior, cheering from the trees.
And with the weekend being action packed where the Sanlam was won last Friday by Petronilah Kalee, Diwali festival on Saturday win by Angel Wangari and now on Sunday the Seex Memorial going to Akinyi, October 2026 will be remembered, the month of Ladies at Nyali Golf & Country Club, as they await another showdown on Saturday,31st, October 2026 for much anticipated ICEA LION King of the course grand finale.
