KCB RFC recorded its fourth consecutive win of the season after defeating Mwamba RFC 36-5 in a Kenya Cup fixture at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday in Nairobi.
Wilhite Mususi opened the scoring for the Curtis Olago-led side before Captain Griffin Musila added the second try of the game in the early stages.
Michael Kimwele added the third just before the interval to give KCB a commanding 17-0 lead at the break.
Speaking after the win, KCB RFC Head Coach Curtis Olago said, “We had a tough match against Mwamba but we managed to secure the victory despite the many errors we committed. We are now focusing on the upcoming fixture against Strathmore Leos. We will use today’s match as a benchmark for what we should and shouldn’t do in the upcoming encounter against an equally top opponent.”
Second half substitute Kolian Persian scored his second try for the afternoon ensuring KCB sealed its win against a struggling Kulabu side.
“Owing to the depth of our squad, it was strategic for us to take off some key first team players to give an opportunity to other players who have proven that I can rely on them to give us the results we need as a team. Our objectives for the season are still intact going into match day five,” added Olago.
Olago took off Oscar Simiyu, Griffin Musila, Wilhite Mususi, Davies Chenge, Emmanuel Opondo, Peter Waitere, Brian Wahinya and Michael Kimwele.
The bankers will face varsity lads Strathmore Leos at the Den on January 20, 2024, in another entertaining fixture.
Meanwhile KCB FC has bolstered its squad in the January transfer window with the signing of seven new players as the team prepares to bounce back to winning ways in their Sunday’s FKF-premier league clash against Ulinzi Stars away at the Ulinzi Complex.
The seven players are striker Collins Neto from Muhoroni Youth, Lameck Luhangala from Scorpions Musingu, Shadrack Simiyu from Compel FC, Victor Ogendo from Musanze, Henry Onyango from Sharks, Francis Onyango from Bidco and Vincent Ondabu joining from Equity.
Head Coach Bernard Mwalala said, “We slipped in the last match against Tusker, but it is no excuse. As we take on Ulinzi, a loss or a draw is not what we are envisioning, we are going into the match to grab the three points. We have also strengthened our squad with the additions of fresh blood who will increase our chances of achieving our objectives for the remainder of the season.”
Seven players including Harun Mwale, Harrison Mwendwa, Musa Masika, John Mwangi, Nicholas Kipkurui, Byrne Omondi and Cliff Oruko have also left the club.
The team currently sits 7th in the 18-team log standings after garnering 27points from the 17 first leg matches with the bankers have won 7 matches, drawn 6 and lost 4 and they have so far scored 20 goals while conceding 17 times.
“I am delighted to be back home after my six months spell away at Kariobangi Sharks and I am looking forward to working under coach Mwalala who is a serial winner. The team is stronger with the new acquisitions, and I am optimistic I will get my chance against Ulinzi on Sunday where I am looking forward to scoring on my second debut for the club,” noted Forward Henry Onyango.
Quartet of Kenyan International Haniff Wesonga, Herit Mungai, Kevin Okumu and Bernard Odhiambo are expected to lead from the back as Apollo Otieno, Derrick Otieno and Danson Namasaka control the midfield department.
Newcomer Collins Neto is also expected to feature.
