It was a dream come true for the KCB Women’s Volleyball Team as they came from a set down to defeat their fierce rivals Kenya Pipeline 3-1 to win the Kenya National Volleyball title in a historic feat that ends the team’s 15-year wait for the local league title.

The 2022 African Club Champions made a strong intent in the tournament from the onset seeing off Kenya Prisons 3-1 on Monday afternoon and registering a morale-boosting 3-0 against DCI On Wednesday.
In the day’s encounter, the team narrowly lost the first set 18-25 before claiming the rest of the sets 25-19, 25-21, and 25-21 in a heart-pounding encounter that was graced by hundreds of Volleyball enthusiasts.

KCB Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Judi Sidi Odhiambo who doubles up as the team’s patron said, “It has been a long wait, but we are proud of the hard work and enthusiasm that has seen us reclaim the elusive trophy. I am proud of the girls for their valiant display against a worthy opponent. Special recognition also goes to the technical bench under the leadership of Coach Japheth Munala for equipping the girls with the necessary ingredients to succeed. It is now time to celebrate before we go back to the drawing board to prepare for the next season.”
Coach Munala singled out Kwanthanze High School superstar Marlyn Terry who was key in the team’s triumph for her exemplary performance in her debut playoffs experience and has revealed he will continue nurturing her to see the youngster become a critical pillar of the team going into the future.
“I am happy for the team for this achievement. Since I joined KCB, my aim was to win the local title after winning the African Club Championship. I cannot simply put into words the feeling I have right now, but I thank the KCB management for their unwavering support of the KCB team. I dedicate this win to Kwanthanze Secondary School student Marlyne Terry who was exceptional throughout the competition,” Coach Munala added.
Last season, KCB lost 3-1 to the Gitau-led charges at the same venue but today’s win serves as a reward for the 15-year wait.
The team awaits the announcement of the start of the new season from the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF).
