The Golfing season opened well on a high note to lady Golfer Florence Mugi who recorded the best score of 14 differential points to claim the top spot in the Lady Captain (Hilda Mugure) prize tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Played on a medal and stable ford formats for the Ladies, Lena Breitner recorded 17 differential points to carry the runners up slot while Zaituni Mohamed was third on a count back score of 18 differential points.
The day long 18 holes’ tournament organized by the Club’s outgoing Lady Captain Mugure to bid farewell to Friends and members after a one-year term in office, attracted Golfers from the home Club, Coast Clubs and others from across the Country.
Mombasa Golf Club’s Monica Kamundi was the guest winner on 14 differential points beating Sylvia Gabil to the runners up slot with a 2 points difference.
Tabitha Mayende carded 15 differential points to take the Lady high handicapper prize while Florence Karimi on 19 differential points and Perviz Barnsley with 23 differential points were the Best past lady captain and senior lady winners respectively.
In the Subsidiary Men players who teed off from the first ladies’ tee box, saw handicap 2 Nathan Ngweno emerge the best gross winner on a 1 over par 72 gross.
Handicap 11 Tom Soigwa carded 39 points to win the Subsidiary prize while handicap 17 Zafar Imtiaz with 35 points and handicap 22 Thomas Wolke on 38 points were the senior and guest winners respectively.

Mugure who is bowing out of office showered praises to all the Club members, the Ladies’ Committee and staff for the smooth team work that enabled her to run the office successfully.

The week long activities kicked off on Sunday,17th with Junior Golf day, followed by the Caddies and Staffs Golf day on Monday, 12th, January before players took a rest on Tuesday,13th January and Wednesday,14th, January.
They resumed on Thursday 15th, January with the Thursday Club nite, then Friends of the lady Captain Golf day on Friday ,16th January and culminated with the main 2025 Lady Captain Prize tournament on Saturday,17th, January that was also graced by among others the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Chairman Rosemary Mkok.

Elsewhere, home club’s Junaid Manji clinched the 2026 NCBA Sigona Bowl title after a strong three-day performance at Sigona Golf Club in Nairobi on Saturday.
The tournament that officially opened the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Golfing season, saw the handicap +3.7 Manji who is also the reigning Nairobi District Championship (NDC) winner, post an aggregate score of 213 gross to emerge the champion beating a highly competitive field of 150 players from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and India.
Club mate Elvis Muigua finished second on 217 gross, while Limuru’s Dennis Maara rounded up the podium in third place with a total score of 219 gross.
This tournament is a premier event on the KGU calendar, providing a high-quality competitive platform and valuable ranking points early in the season that also featured a prize purse of Ksh. 115,600, rewarding excellence and consistency across the three rounds.
KGU extended its congratulations to Manji and all participating players, and expressed its appreciation to NCBA for their continued partnership and commitment to the growth and development of competitive golf in Kenya and the wider region.
