Kwale county is set host Coast region’s biggest battle featuring over 120 elite amateurs drawn across the country for the Diani Beach Masters tournament at the 18 holes par 72 Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort championship course in South Coast of Mombasa from Friday to Sunday.
The three days 54 holes’ showdown at the Course famous for its Baobab trees, ocean breeze and tight fairways, organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) and supported by NCBA Bank, counts towards the Kenya Amateur Golf Ranking and the Road to the 2027 Magical Kenya Open.
This tournament comes just four days after the Kilifi County leg of the Malindi Open in the Vasco Da Cup, that was clinched by Golf Park’s Josphat Rono.
Rono will, however, have to contend with a strong field that includes other players like Junaid Manji, Kevin Anyien, Isaac Makokha and promising junior player Maahir Patel.
Teenagers Kanana Muthomi, Bianca Ngecu and Brianna Ngecu lead the women entries that also feature Kellie Gachaga and Mary Kandu, among others.
Jay Sandhu remains at the top of the 2026 KAGC standings with 1,535 points, followed by John Kamais on 1,117. Muigua is third on 890 points, with Adel Taufiq Balala fourth on 814, while Rono sits fifth on 628 points following his win last weekend.
The overall winner at Diani will not just lift a trophy, but also be dressed in the prestigious Club’s Green Jacket, the signature prize of the Diani series, introduced since 1999 to give the Coast leg its unique identity and to honor tradition, excellence and belonging.
For Coast golf fans, the man to watch will be Nyali Golf & Country Club’s star William Odeck who tied third at Malindi with Elvis Muigua of Windsor in Malindi who was the last year’s Champion.
Odeck currently playing zero handicap who has been the face of Coast amateur golf for the last three seasons, confirmed yesterday in Mombasa that he was ready for the Diani challenge, saying that winning the Green Jacket would be the perfect way.
“To have the Jacket at Diani makes this leg special. Everyone wants to be the guy in green on Sunday. This is a very emotional week for me. Diani is like a second home and am prepared. I tied with Muigua in Malindi and we pushed each other to the last hole. That tells you the level is high. My preparation has been intense. I have been training at Nyali every morning, working on my short game and putting under pressure. The course at Diani punishes you if you miss the fairway. But my expectation is simple. I want to win the title in front of my Coast fans. I have no pressure, just gratitude, I want to give everything, “said Odeck who plans to join the Professional squad after the Nyali open in December.
Diani’s defending champion Muigua, who knows every grain of sand on Diamond Leisure, says he is ready to defend the title.
“That jacket is heavy, not in weight but in honor. It hangs in the clubhouse with my name inside ‘Elvis Muigua 2025,’ Now I want to wear it again in 2026. At Diamond Leisure, I understand the course and I know where to miss and where to attack. Odeck is my good friend and a great competitor. We tied in Malindi and we laughed about it, but in Diani it will be a different fight. My preparation has been good. My expectation is to defend. The competition will be tough. If I win here, it keeps my ranking high for Kenya Open slots. I respect Odeck but on Sunday, may the best player win,” said Muigua.

Fairways are trimmed, greens are firm and fast, bunkers are raked. The Green Jacket is our identity. When you put on that jacket at Diamond, you join a very small, special family of champions. It is respected here. We welcome all golfers and fans. This is more than golf, it is Kwale showcasing its ability to host national events,” said Mitesh.
Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman, Brian Akun said, “The KAGC continues to provide a competitive platform for Kenya’s amateur golfers to test themselves against each other in the country. The quality of the field we are seeing at events such as Diani is encouraging, and the fact that it comes after the Malindi event to complete the Coastal double-header makes it even better. We are particularly pleased to see young golfers competing alongside established amateurs.”
Like at Augusta, a Golf Club at a city on the central eastern border of the U.S. state of Georgia, the green jacket is not taken home permanently.
The champion wears it during the prize ceremony, takes photos on the 18th green and then it is kept in the club’s Champions’ Room until the next year, only to be worn again when he returns to defend but he gets a replica miniature version to keep.
