The coastal swing of the Duracoat Golf Masters 2026 (Celebrating its 50th anniversary), delivered fireworks as Vimal Ranpura carded a superb 74 gross to claim the overall gross title, where a record 195 players teed off under hot Mombasa conditions at the par 71 Nyali Golf & Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Sponsored by Basco Paints and organized by the Nyali Golf Club Competitions Committee led by Sanjay Kotecha, John Orioro, Saj Shah, Aamil Mughal, Fred Kamau and Kailesh Chauhan, the tournament is part of the national 2026 Duracoat Masters series, circuit that will culminate in the Grand Finale at Mount Kipipiri Golf & Resort Club, near the Kinangop plateau and the Aberdare range in Nyandarua Count on 28th, November 2026.
Ranpura, playing off handicap 9, beat the challenging Nyali layout that was playing long on the back nine but his overall score earned him the top prize presented by Basco Paints Managing Director Kamlesh Shah and an automatic qualification as Qualifier No.1 from Nyali.
Ranpura said he focused on keeping his ball in play which produced sterling results and his plan now is to go to Mt. Kipipiri and try to bring the trophy back to Nyali.
“Nyali is never easy. The wind on 10, 11 and 18 was tough today. I just told myself, keep it on the fairway, avoid the indigenous tress on the second nine. The win is not my best but it was enough today because the course was playing tough. I want to thank Duracoat for supporting this series, it is giving us club golfers a real road to a national final,” said Ranpura.
In the main Stable ford category, it was a day for high handicappers as Tobias Messo (Handicap 26) produced the best points score of the season at Nyali, an outstanding 51 points to win the Men’s winner prize presented by Club Chairman Michael Sangoro.
Messo, who started slowly, turned on the style on the second nine to seal his first major win this year and Qualifier No.2.
Kailesh Chauhan (Handicap 20) continued his consistent season with 42 points countback to finish Men’s Runner up, while David Ngunjiri (Handicap 23) also carded 42 points to take Men’s third, and both also qualified for the finale.
In the ladies’ section, Christine Ockotch (Handicap 12), who has been a regular on the Mombasa ladies circuit, played solid golf to hold off the challenge after showing her class to win Lady Winner’s prize with 38 points.
Chloe Dhanji (Handicap 32) carded 37 points countback to claim Lady runner up, while Faith Marete (Handicap 21) also on 37 points took Lady third.
Winners in the side prizes were Nearest to Pin Men (Hole 18)-Aaron Gitonga-4 Ft, Nearest to Pin Ladies (Hole 180-Noni Wanyee-10 Ft, Longest Drive Men (Hole 9)-Michael Chege, Longest Drive Ladies (Hole 9)-Sandrah Githere, Best Effort/Piga Mingi-John Kithinji (Handicap 28)-15 points C/B.
The tournament circuit was critical as committee confirmed 12 Qualifiers will join qualifiers from other for the Grand Finale.

Kamau (19)-38 points, Christine Ockotch (12)-38 points, Amos Mwaura (17)-37 points, Chloe Dhanji (32)-37 points, Aamil Mughal (12)-37 points.
Club Captain Muzzahim Taib hailed the huge turnout and the spirit of Nyali members.
“Today we had 195 players, that shows what Duracoat Masters means to our club. We are seeing more members coming out, more ladies, more juniors caddying and learning. On behalf of Nyali Golf Club, I want to thank Duracoat Paints, Basco Paints for believing in club golf and for taking this tournament across the country. The course was in great condition, the competition was fair, and we have produced 12 very strong qualifiers who I believe can go and win the finale at Mt. Kipipiri. We saw Messo topping the Men, that is exceptional golf. We saw Christine Ockotch leading the ladies, our ladies are growing. And we saw Ranpura holding his nerve for 74 gross, that is championship golf. Congratulations to all winners and to John Kithinji for keeping the spirit alive with Piga Mingi. We look forward to the next leg and we wish our Nyali team well at the finale,” said Taib.
The Nyali leg also featured the traditional Ball Pool where each player contributed golf balls, adding to the camaraderie.
