Coast Medical Doctor Johnson Muriuki recorded 26 differential points to emerge the overall winner of the captain (Francis Muthamia) prize golf tournament ended at the par 71 sea-link Mombasa golf course on Saturday.

The left handed golfer Muriuki playing off handicap 20 played 70 nett in the first day on Friday and added a fine 44 points to take the lead of the tournament and register his maiden victory this year.
“I was just enjoying my game and surpringly it turned out to be the best. This is my greatest win this year, and Iam really humbled to be the winner and thanks to the organizers and sponsors for the success of this tournament, “said Muriuki.
The tournament to celebrate the one-year tenure in office of the Club Captain Francis Muthamia was played on Friday and Saturday for men and Ladies playing as subsidiary on Saturday.
It was jointly sponsored by DTB, CLC, Appolo, Amref, Pathway, Achelis, Majani, Andy golf pro shop, Nulook, Chaigold, Ketepa, Intercity and friends of the Captain.
It attracted the course required numbers of 120 golfers drawn from the home club, Coast golf clubs, up country clubs and friends with guests of the Captain with valid handicap index.
Handicap 8 Maj. Joel Mochanga with 32 differential points was the runners up while handicap 19 Clifford Tollo on 35 differential points and handicap 15 George Thama with 36 differential points were third and fourth respectively.
Henry Kamau playing minus 1 handicap carded a two days total of 150 gross to emerge the gross winner while handicap 1 Gurbux Singh was the Saturday gross winner with 80 gross and handicap 6 Eric Nyongesa brought a seven over par 78 gross to emerge the Friday winner of the same.
Eliud Bett playing off handicap 21 was the Saturday nett winner after carding 70 nett and the Friday winner of the same on 67 nett was handicap 22 John Mugo.
The best past Captain prize was swept by handicap 19 James Gitonga on a 36 differential points while handicap 23 Harsimran Kaur brought 36 points to win the Junior prize and handicap 14 Thomas Soigwa with a score of 35 points was the best guest.

Diani’s Diamond Leisure golf resort club’s Pauline Nduva playing off handicap 36 was the lady winner on 39 points while handicap 24 Orpha Wamaitha claimed the runners up spot beating third placed handicap 22 Hilda Mugure count back score after tied on 38 points.
The sponsor winner’s prize on 45 differential points was claimed by Martin Irungu and Caroline Munyao’s 52 points earned her the prize of the best lady high handicap.
Club captain Francis Muthamia said the aim of setting the pin positions in tricky ways was set to enable golfers enjoy the tournament and make it memorable.
“It was not meant to torture anyone and I hope all enjoyed the day and I thank you all including my supporters for turning up large numbers to make my tournament successful. Am also proud to have brought in more tournaments, sponsors and increased the numbers of members to club and will continue to support the club even after my retirement as the captain, “said Muthamia.
Club Chairman Paul Munyao showered praises on the captain saying he was a hardworking and honest captain who brought a lot of changes especially improvement and streamlining the financial department of the club.
And at Thika greens golf resort course also in the same day, handicap 24 Bernard Sang recorded an excellent score of 45 points to emerge the overall winner of this year’s Metumi golf tournament beating handicap 23 Joseph Mbitu to the runners up slot by a single point difference.
F.N. Thuo playing off handicap 13 was the Metumi winner on 41 points and claiming the runners up slot on 40 points was handicap 17 F. Ng’anga.
The Member men prize was won by handicap 15 Dr.A. Shitseswa who carded an excellent 44 points while the same for the lady was claimed by handicap 16 Carol Kibanya who finished with 39 points.
Chris Wanyoike playing off handicap 21 won the Corporate sponsor prize while handicap 11 A. Muita on 77 gross and handicap 23 Lawrence Kinyori with 42 points were the gross and guest winners respectively.
The subsidiary man winner was victor handicap 26 Victor Komu recording a score of 41 points while handicap 40 Susan Munga on 33 points was the lady winner of the same and Stephen Chiuri playing off handicap 29 was the junior winner after recording 15 points.
