GOLF NEWS-Its Mintos time to celebrate after emerging top winner in the Akothee Charity tourney at Nyali;

It’s a celebration time for home Club’s home Tony Mintos after emerging the top winner in the 2024 Akotheee Foundation Charity Golf Tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa course at the weekend.

The handicap 33 Mintos brought an excellent total of 42 stable ford points to triumph in the 18 holes day long tournament that attracted a team of 156 golfers.
“I need to celebrate cause today has been good with the course playing well with my four ball team and I extend my thanks to the organizers and the Club for the day is a good tourney for a worthy course, it’s also a good moment winning this event after many months and very happy., “said Mintos.
Handicap 21 Epapra Lagat was the runners up on a two way count back score of 40 points after tying on the third placed handicap 30 Anne Cherop,fourth placed handicap 11 M.Walji and fifth placed handicap 15 Lawrence Odhiambo.
The event organized by Kenyan Celebrity Artist Esther Akoth of the Akothee Foundation was dedicated in raising funds to provide quality education and holistic development to children in Kenya.
It was graced by her colleagues Eric Omondi of the Churchill show, Kevin Bahati (Bahati) and Diana Bahati among other local artists.
The event was supported by among others the Andy Golf Pro Shop, Fly Dubai, MMK, NCBA, Skyward Aviation and the County Government of Mombasa represented by the Local Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir.

Elsewhere at the 73 Kitale Golf Course , John Lejirmah from Kenya Railways recorded a total of 209 gross to emerge the overall winner of the 2024 Trans Nzoia Open Golf tourney that ended on Sunday.
Lejirma who is also the Kenya National Golf Team Captain played a 72-67-70 gross in the three days event to claim the victory and pocketed Ks.76, 400 as the prize money.
The event organized by the Kenya Golf Union and supported by NCBA, saw Kisii Sports Club’s Geoffrey Karioko and Elly Barno Nandi Bears Club’s Elly Barno tie for the second slot and awarded Ksh.38.250 each after both separately brought a total of 224 gross.

Golf Park’s Josphat Rono and Vet Lab Sports Club’s Steve Orinda also tied for fourth place on 225gross the only female player in the tournament Naomi Wafula from Vipingo Baobab Ridge Golf Club in Kilifi County was among the top ten leaders with a round score of 229 gross.
The tournament attracted some 72 leading Amateurs including three from Rwanda that added an international flair to the competition.


It is one of the ongoing 27 series of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Schedule being played across Golf Clubs in the Country and will end at Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa in December where the Golfer of the year will be crowned and awarded.
The Open also holds significant importance as the Amateurs will sought qualifications for both the Kenya Amateur Golf Ranking (KAGR) and the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
And at the nine hole Bujumbura golf course in Burundi, the four-ball of Christa-Gretta Kaze, Serge Muheto, Benjamin Huynen, Golf Berty recorded a combined score of 145 points to clinch the 2024 Burundi leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour.
The team has qualified for the tour’s grand finale slated for December 6th in Nairobi where they will join other teams from hosts Nairobi, Mombasa, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Nyeri, Nandi, and Kericho Counties who have also booked their slots.
“We had an incredible four-ball. We are happy with our win, and we cannot wait to represent Bujumbura Golf Club at the grand finale later this year. We know the competition will be tough, but we are ready for the challenge against top amateur golfers from within the East African region, “said Muheto
Serge Muheto brought 39 points to bag the first category prize while Club captain Benjamin Huynen returned 34 points to claim the runners up slot and Christa-Gretta Kaze was the second category winner with 37 points.
KCB Group Director Human Resources Japheth Achola was the staff winner with 38 points and Aristide Ngabire was named the elite category winner on 41 points.
The next Kenyan edition of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour will be held at the Nakuru Golf Course for its fourth leg on May 18, 2024.
