GOLF NEWS-Jackline Mutahi grabs lead at Chairman Paul Munyao’s prize tournament in Mombasa.

Home club’s Jackline Mutahi returned an excellent score of 40 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner of the Chairman’s (Paul Munyao) prize golf tournament played at the par 71 Sea-link Mombasa golf course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
“My game is currently getting better after a long time and I feel so excited and great to win today especially my Chairman’s tournament. It has been a good day out there in the course with lots fun though challenging and was also very hot but Iam really to have made it to the top,” said Mutahi.


The handicap 33 Mutahi was able to beat a team of 160 golfers in the day long 18 holes’ tournament hosted in celebration of the Paul Munyao’s two year’s tenure in office as the Club Chairman.
The oversubscribed 160 players at the nine-hole course were drawn from the home club, Coast clubs, others from upcountry clubs, guests and sponsors with valid handicap index.


The tournament was massively sponsored by Anant Bhat, CFAO Mobility, Wakuitu golfers, Life Cargo, Africa Bliss Travels, KPMG, Tamarind Mombasa, KPC, Premier Hospital, Network, Golf Box Kenya, First Capital, Plaza, Kwal, Artha, MMK, Pauland, Travellers Beach Hotel and Spa, Stanbic, KCB, Britam, Nulook, Andy Golf Pro shop, Deansbrook Schools, Megna Homes and friends of the Chairman.

Major Ken Kimundi playing off handicap 24 brought 39 count back points to emerge the men winner beating the left handed handicap 21 Elijah Ibua to the runners up slot on same score and handicap 15 Justine Ongere sat third with 38 points.

The lady’ prize on 38 points was scooped by handicap 19 Monica Kamundi while handicap 19 Orpha Wamatha claimed the runners up slot on 36 count back points tying on the same score with third placed handicap 19 Wanjiku Kinyeru.
Handicap 21 Ken Mwangi on 36 points was the best past chairman winner as handicap 24 Maj.Gen (RTD) Anthony Rob on 34 points and handicap 27 Paul Mwaura with 32 points were the best senior and best sponsor winners respectively.

Fidelis Odumo playing off handicap 35 won the Best high handicapper’s prize on 40 points while Malindi’s handicap 23 Joshua Matei was the best guest winner after recording the day’s best score of 45 points and School boy Mwai Mariga playing off handicap 19 was the best junior on 35 points.
This Chairman’s (Munyao) Prize tournament comes after the recent same club Captain’s (Francis Muthamia) and the club’s lady Captain’s (Fiona Mbandi) were also successfully hosted in celebration of their tenure in office.
Muanyo said he was delighted to see a large number of players and great support from several corporates who made the day’s tournament a success and the club for honoring him to serve for two years as the Chairman.
“The numbers of members, tournaments and corporate support has increased tremendously during my tenure and I thank you all for making this possible,” said Munyao.
Munyao also pointed out that through members the club has also developed a five years’ strategic plan that will take it to the next level and urged the members to support the incoming officials to take the club to the next level.
The Chairman said the tournament celebrates the day that marked the end of his tenure as chairman and attracted oversubscribed golfers from across the country and the coast region.
“I have served the club as Past Honorary Secretary, Vice Chairman and as Chairman from 2023 and 2024 and also been the chairman of the irrigation committee as well as the committee on strategic development,” noted Munyao.


He pointed out that during his tenure as chairman, they have experienced tremendous growth and development and developed some strategic plan to guide the club through the next 5 years.
“We acquired new course equipment starting with a new tractor in order to enhance course maintenance, built a new water dam in order to increase our irrigation capacity, created new offices for our club management team, established a golf pro shop for the convenience of our golfers, undertook several infrastructure developments and renovations such as the renovated club house verandah and the club Pavilion and have kept working on maintaining our golf course at the best level of quality that is possible.


He noted that this has improved the club members’ experience at the club house, a growing demand for membership and the number of golfing and non-golfing members has grown tremendously.
Munyao thanked the members for their total support and appreciated the commitment of the club’s Board of Directors whom he said worked overtime in order to discharge their mandate.
