Coast Veteran and Senior Golfers came with confidence but their hopes were dimmed when a Junior Golfer Hawii Odoo took to the podium after emerging top in the Club Nite Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Thursday.
The Junior handicap 24 School boy rounded up the day long 18 holes tourney on an excellent day’s score of 46 stable ford points from both nines to emerge the mixed division one winner beating the golfers including his Dad Charles Odoo and Mum Teresia Odoo.
“Iam so thrilled to win this my last Club Nite event as I return back to School for the second term. It has been a tough holiday being busy with my online classes and occasionally play and train with my Parents around 4Pm.Its indeed a great day for me to be the overall winner with good results and promise to be back during our next school holiday to play better,” said Hawii.
Handicap 28 Abdulhamid Githuku recorded 43 points to claim the second prize while handicap 23 Arif Ismail on 39 points was third placed.
Others among the top ten leaders and ties were Joel Mochanga (13)-38points, Susan Stokes (8)-36 points C/B, Evans Murumba (28)-36points, Tarit Kimtai (26)-35points C/B, M. Walji (11)-35points C/B, Mary Kinaro (25)-35points, Rose Njogu (30)-34points C/B, and Truphena Oyaro (14)-34points.
In the mixed division two category, handicap 29 Stefan Radke brought 37 points to emerge the winner while handicap 30 Tony Mintos on 32 points and handicap 38 Joan Kimani with 23 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.
Club Captain Dinesh Sasan praised the golfers for turning up in large numbers despite a weekday and playing under cold and wet weather condition.
He noted that by the Junior winner displaying a good course result, the day’s event has proved that the future of Golf lies with the Juniors and urged all the Members to support the Club’s junior programme to tap more talents.
“This club has mentored many Juniors over the past years some of who are now Professionals so its our duty as Members and Parents to continue supporting them and their programs to keep the flame burning, “said Sasan.
During the Friday, May 10 th public holiday, the club has invited all its members for a planting tree exercise around the Club course from 5 pm while Members will play the Men and Ladies green some golf tournament on Saturday,11th, May.
