Coast senior Golfer Peter Gathuri broke his silence to win the Nomadic golf series played at the Par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 15 Gathuri carded an excellent 40 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner in the day long 18 holes tournament dubbed ‘Road to Cape Town.’

His victory came after playing 21 points in the first nine before adding 19 points in the second to lead the day’s leaderboard.

“I have not been winning for many years but today it has well, am the winner and looking forward to maintain the status, “said Gathuri.

The event sponsored by among the Bamburi based Queens Court Hotel saw the Men’s  winner’s slot scopped by handicap 20 Tom Soigwa with a count back score of 39 points after tying on the same prize with runners up placed handicap 22 Tony Wanyama.

Hellen Wanjiru playing off handicap 27 carded 39 points (20-19) to emerge the Lady winner beating  handicap 20 Florence Karimi  to the runners up  slot by a two points difference.

The Best gross winner was handicap 2 George Munyao with a two over par 73 gross while handicap 36 Peter Macharia on 38 points and handicap 20 Kelly Rob with a count back score of 39 points were the Best Senior and Best Junior respectively.

Gabriel Miungu playing off handicap 10 won the Guest prize with 36 points.

The High handicapper’s men’s prize was claimed by handicap 32 Michael Songoro and handicap 46 Diana Nthiwa was the same winner for the lady category after returning a score of 38 points.

The event’s main Organizer John Mburu announced eight qualifiers to the next leg of the series expected to be held at the Great Rift Valley Golf Course in Naivasha.

They men are Jatin Malde (40 points C/B), Peter Gathuri (40 Points), Tom Soigwa (39 Ponts C/B), Tony Wanyama (39) points and Ian Marshall (38 Points).

The Ladies are Hellen Wanjiru (39 points), Florence Karimi (37 points), Wanjiku Kinyeru (36 points C/B), Janet Wasike (36 points) and Zaituni Mohamed (35 points).

At the Par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Course also in Mombasa County, Benjamin Wasige and Emanuel Dena teamed to return a combined score of 40 points to emerge the overall winners of the Inaugural Coast Golf League launch golf tournament played at the par 71 Mombasa Golf Club course.

The one day 18 holes tournament brought Coast golfers from the Coast golf clubs of the home Club, Nyali Golf and Country Club (Mombasa County),Diamond Leisure Golf Resort (Kwale County), Vipingo Baobab Ridge Golf Resort and Malindi Country Club (Kilifi County).

George Mokaya and Julie Trayner had 38 points to claim the winner’s prize while John Maina (junior) and Francesca Biancacci on 37 points were the runners up.

Taking the third place was the team of Victor Simbi and Justine Ongere who carded a combined score of 35 points while the team of Randal Adams and Allan Habala won  the the fourth slot on a combined score of 35 points .

BRIAN JAYSINS-OXYGEN PR adds,Elsewhere handicap 28 golfer Captain Collins Moroa was named the overall winner of the Kenya Air Force Commander’s Cup at the 18-hole Great Rift Valley golf course in Naivasha on Saturday.

The seasoned golfer carded an impressive 42 stable ford points to clinch his win at the KCB-sponsored tourney that brought together 170 golfers.

Major E. Murunga who plays off handicap 8 emerged as the division one winner carding 32 stable ford points ahead of Sergeant H. Wanyama (8) who settled for the runner up position with 30 points.

Sergeant Faith Muteti playing off handicap 25 won the lady winner award with 36 stable ford points while Sergeant Grace Kwamboka scooped the first nine award with 23 points. Captain M. Maarifa won the second nine award with 19 points.

In the division 2 category, Handicap 21 lady golfer sergeant Valine Akoth floored her opponents with an excellent score of 41 stable ford points and Major Ken Kimundi (25) finished second with 36 points.

Martin Kiambi won the longest drive award in the men’s category while Christine Kamais clinched it in the ladies’ category.

Kenya Air Force Commander Major General John Omenda said, “I am happy to join you in this amazing golf outing that has brought officers together to battle for the top honors. Indeed, we have seen very good golf on the course, and I expect the sport to grow to another level.
