GOLF NEWS-KGU unveil team Kenya for the African Region IV Men’s team Championship set for Mauritius.

Team Kenya has officially been announced to represent the nation in this year’s forthcoming African Region IV Men’s Team Championship set for the prestigious Tamarina Golf Club in Mauritius.
The squad of four players unveiled by Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has already kicked off their training under Coach Ali Khimji and composes top amateur male golfers from set for a highly anticipated showdown of skill and teamwork.
According to a latest press release from KGU, the four players have been selected from the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) rankings and Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) order of merit.
They include team captain Junaid Ayaz Manji (Sigona), Kamoza Longwe (Windsor), Rafael Leming’ani (Ruiru) and current top Junior Mwathi Gicheru (Royal Nairobi) who will be at the championship taking place from 2nd to 6th June 2026.
The 18-year-old Manji who is currently second on the KAGC Ranking opened the year by winning the first KAGC series in Sigona and in February, he was also part of the team that played and claimed victory for the Victoria Cup 2026 championship in Entebbe.
In March, He captained the Kenyan Junior team through the All African Junior Team Championship 2026 at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club in Kenya where they finished second, qualifying for the Toyota World Championship 2026 in Japan.
Manji was also part of the team that played and won the African Region IV Men Team Championship
2025 in Madagascar for the 4th consecutive time.
“This is my second time participating the African Region IV tournament and I’m very optimistic about victory this time, “said Manji.
The 22 years old Longwe is 4th ranked and is a recent recognizable force in this year’s KAGC Series events with a good number of top 10 finishes including his recently won Maiden Victory at the Ulinzi Inaugural Open.
This will be his first time representing the country at an international event and believes that the time put in for practice and his passion for the game will reflect heavily at the African Region IV Men’s Team Championship 2026.
While the 34 years old Leming’ani ranked 5th on the KAGC Ranking) started the year on form, winning the highly contested NCBA Mt. Kenya Championship at the Nyeri Golf Club and has maintained the characters of a cool, consistent contender at the KAGC Series for about a decade.
He has great experience as a national team player and was part of the Kenyan Team that played the Victoria Cup Championship 2025 at the Mt. Kipipiri Golf Resort.
His consistency and performance at the KAGC Series events has earned him a slot at the African
Region IV Tournament.
And the 18 years old Gicheru, currently the top Junior, is a recent powerful force to reckon in the golf scenery in Kenya.
He has continued to brand and align himself as a super junior golfer and through his consistent performance and ranking, Gicheru was for the first time selected to play at the Victoria Cup Championship 2026, where Team Kenya won, with him making the winning stroke in Entebbe-Uganda.
He was also part of the All-African Junior Team Championship 2026, where Team Kenya finished second
and qualified for the Toyota World Championship 2026 in Japan with him being the best performing
junior among Team Kenya and finished 5th overall at the tournament.
Gicheru also won the Kabete Junior Open Boy’s title with a dominant 6-shot victory at the Vet Lab
Sports Club and being the youngest among the four players selected to represent Kenya at the African Region IV Championship 2026 in Mauritius, He is excited at the opportunity and is committed to bringing the champion’s title home.
The championship will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play across three rounds with each participating nation to field a team of four male players.
According to the format of play, for daily team scoring, the best three scores out of the four players will count toward the team’s total and at the conclusion of the tournament, the team with the lowest cumulative score across all three rounds will be crowned the African Region IV Team Champion.
In case of a tie for first place, the best final-round team score will determine the winner and if still tied, the decision will proceed to a countback in the last 18, 9, 6, 3 and the final hole while in case of tied, for individual score, a playoff sudden death will determine the winner.
In addition to the team competition, individual excellence will also be recognized, with an award
presented to the player who records the best individual score and there will be individual rankings,
based on each player’s total gross score over 54 holes.
