Apart from stiff challenges among the locals that includes the tournament’s defending champion Joyce Wanjiru of Kiambu Golf Club, the ladies will return to the course also facing stiff competition with elite amateur players from Tanzania and Uganda.

And with the best of East Africa’s golfing talent converging in Ruiru, the stage is set for a showdown that could see Wanjiru’s reign challenged by hungry newcomers’ eager to claim the title.

“Lots of pressure on my side and it is also a crucial time but I’m ready to tackle any challenge and retain the title, “said Wanjiru.
KLGU Chairman Rosemary Mkok said the Union is excited to bring the KLGU Open to Ruiru Golf Club for the first time.
“This event continues to grow in stature and the inclusion of the 36-hole subsidiary event reflects our commitment to expanding competitive opportunities for Women’s Golf in the region, “said Mkok.
Mkok pointed out that the tournament serves as a key stepping stone for Golfers seeking to improve their WAGR standings as well as Golfer of the Year (GOTY) rankings and gain valuable tournament experience.
The KLGU Open has long been a cornerstone of Kenya’s golfing calendar, celebrating talent, sportsmanship, and the development of women’s golf.
KLGU’s responsibilities include supporting ladies’ sections in affiliated clubs, organizing open ladies’ events and coordinating the annual calendar for open club tournaments.
The winners of the open tournaments compete for the prestigious KLGU Golfer of the Year (GOTY) trophy, which is aimed at promoting ladies’ golf in all parts of the country.
Ruiru Sports Club is strategically located along the Thika Superhighway between the two bustling industrial towns of Ruiru and Juja just next to Ruiru Kenha Weighbridge in Kiambu County.
