The Jamu Imaging Foundation (JIF) takes over the iconic Coast course under the powerful theme ‘Tee off for maternal health’ in a charity golf tournament for a great cause to be staged at the par 71 Nyali Golf & Country Club course in Mombasa county on Saturday,03rd October,2026.
This tournament featuring an estimated 250 players from the home Club, Seafront Mombasa, Vipingo Baobab, Malindi, Diamond Leisure clubs with others from across the Country with valid handicaps, will mean much more than birdies and bogeys.
The tournament is open to all golfers and non-golfers alike, a deliberate move to make charity inclusive with the contest lineup exciting, where prizes will be awarded to the overall tournament winner (1st-3rd places), hole-in-one, longest drive, closest to the pin, and best dressed Male/Female golfer.
Those lined up to lead the home charge and coming fresh from last Saturday’s victories, know what it takes to conquer this tricky course and they will be the ones to watch.
They are among them Joyce Kamau (overall), William Kaguta (gross), Dominic Makau (Men), Lena Breitner (Lady), Chloe Dhanji (runners up) and Zoab Gullamhusein (hole in one).
For non-golfers, it is a full family fun day, with fellowship, Spades & Dominoes tournament, Nyama Choma, raffles, and an open donation platform.
Dinner will be hosted by ‘La Fattoria Resort,’ promising a coastal evening of celebration after the final putt drops.
Club Captain Muzzahim Taib, flanked by the Lady Captain Zaituni Mohamed said they are excited and proud to host a tournament where sport meets service.
“Nyali has always been more than golf, we are a community. When Jamu Imaging Foundation approached us with this concept of using golf to save mothers, the decision was instant. Our course, our members, our caddies, we all stand behind this cause. I urge all members to come early, bring friends, and fill the tee sheet. Let’s show that Mombasa golfers care, “said Taib and Zaituni.
They added that charity tournaments are now a cornerstone of Nyali’s calendar, blending competitive golf with social impact, and expects a full field on Saturday.

JIF Director Dr. Peter Umara, a Consultant Radiologist and Co-Director Felix Obara, also a golfer with membership at Windsor Golf & Country Club, said this tournament is more than a golf, it is a mission saying, “The impact will be priceless, the mission is urgent, deeply human and every swing saves a mother.”
They said the Foundation is raising funds to take mobile imaging services especially obstetric ultrasounds to remote areas where cost and distance kill, and the target is to screen expectant mothers who would otherwise never access antenatal imaging.
Dr. Umara and Obara further pointed out that the idea was born from painful reality on the ground noting that, “We kept seeing mothers in remote villages arriving at hospitals too late, with complications that some simple scan months earlier could have detected. Distance and cost are silent killers. This tournament is our way of saying-we will take the service to them. When you pay to play, you are literally helping a mother see her baby safely for the first time.”
They emphasized that this is not a one-off charity show, JIM is building a sustainable outreach model where Funds from this golf day will fuel their mobile units, train sonographers and partner with county health teams to camp in villages.
“We are targeting hundreds of mothers to be screened in the first phase. Golfers are becoming health champions. We are not just raising money; we are raising awareness. Every golfer will leave Nyali on Saturday knowing that imaging is not a luxury it is a lifesaver” noted the Directors.
The tournament poster’s imagery says it all, ‘soft pinks, a mother cradling her unborn child, a heart glowing within,’ it is a stark, beautiful contrast to the usual green-and-white golf aesthetic, reminding every participant why they are playing.
How to support the event to play in the tournament, join the fun day, take part in the raffle, or simply donate.
Sponsors have already rallied impressively behind the cause, including Kenya Tru Nomad, Andy Golf Pro Shop, The Bloomz Spa, Britam, Genuine Freight Services Ltd, Heztech, Kenya Villas, Pauland, La Fattoria Resort, North Coast Medical Training College, Palm Beach Hospital, and Tudor Health Care.
Organizers say this broad private-sector backing proves that maternal health resonates beyond the health sector.
In Kenya, maternal mortality remains unacceptably high in arid and remote regions, where the nearest ultrasound machine can be 50-100km away.
For a mother surviving on casual labor, a Ksh 2,500 scan plus transport is impossible and now Jamu’s mobile model seeks to erase that barrier.
Dr. Umara and Obara concludes with a direct appeal, “Come for the golf, stay for the cause. Bring your family for nyama choma even if you don’t play. Your presence is your support.”
And as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean, all will converge at the Club house for a celebratory ‘Dinner by ‘La Fattoria Resort,’ blending fine dining with awards and stories of impact.
