Coast rookie Natallia Herter proved to be matured now after beating a team of 161 golfers to emerge the overall winner in the 2023 Mombasa Cement Charity Golf Tournament played at the Par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 54 Herter carded an excellent 44 stable ford points to claim the overall title and stamped her authority to prove she was now a mature golfer around the Course.
“This is a great moment for me winning this event and ending with victory. The Course was playing well and I thank my three ball partners and the sponsor for this event. As we go for the holiday season, I hope to be back next year fully prepared, “said Herter.
The event being among the last one before Golfers break for the festive holidays, saw Seventeen years old handicap 3 Andrew Wahome posting a two over par 73 gross to win the Best gross prize.
Handicap 33 Qayyum Shiraz was the Men winner on 42 points as handicap 25 Faried Ismail claimed the third slot on 40 points.
The Lady winner was handicap 20 Glady’s Mueni with 39 points while handicap 27 Bruno Gerber on 39 points and handicap 17 Aydan Jamal with 41 points were the Senior and Junior winners respectively.
The Maweni Junior winner’s prize was won by handicap 33 Gibson Chola.
Shah saj playing off handicap 19 went home with the best first nine prize on account back score of 24 points and taking the second nine prize on a count back score of 23 points was handicap 30 Makena Mwige.
Club Captain Dinesh Sasan wished all golfers and club members a merry Christmas and happy New Year and also appreciated golfers for turning up in large numbers and the sponsor for supporting the event to a successful day.
Elsewhere, the 2023 NCBA U.S. Kids Championship concluded on Sunday with remarkable performances from Junior golfers representing 12 countries.
The three-day event, held at the prestigious Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club from December 15th to 17th, showcased the extraordinary talent and sportsmanship of young golfers.
“Golf teaches you endurance. Some will win trophies, but the important thing is to become better, not only in improving the score but also in learning how to manage different conditions,” said Jim Hardy, U.S. Kids Golf Senior Global Director for Golf Development, emphasizing the educational and character-building aspects of the sport.
The tournament featured various age groups, with 8/9 years and under competing in a challenging 9-hole format, while those aged 10 years and above tackled 18 holes, providing a platform for fair and age-appropriate competition.
Adding to the significance of the event, the NCBA Kenya Invitational allowed young golfers to participate in a multi-day International Partner event.
Winners had the opportunity to qualify for U.S. Kids Golf Priority Status, opening doors for further participation in U.S. Kids Golf Major Championships, including Regional, International, and World or World Teen Championships.
