George Mokua beat a team of 209 golfer to emerge the Overall winner of the 7th, Britam Golf Circuit played at the Par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
The home player handicap 24 Mokua who is an immediate Past Chairman of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) carded an excellent count back score of 43 points to claim the overall title.
“I always play in the afternoon but today played in the morning, maybe that’s why I won. But above all, the victory required a lot of practice, accurate calculations with my swings and putting that actually made me the hero of the day. The weather was excellent and my team flight was fantastic making us enjoy our game in this excellent home course. Am now in good form and has been winning some events recently after playing golf for the last two and half years. I will defend the title next year, “said Mokua.
He had closed the day’s event tied on the same score with handicap 20 John Middleton who was the Men winner while Raju Patel Playing off handicap 24 won the Men runners up slot on a count back score of 41 points after tying on the same score with third placed handicap 26 Anand Patel.
The 18 holes tournament that brought Golfers from the Home Club, Sea front Mombasa, Vipingo, Malindi, Diamonds Leisure, Staffs and Guests of the Sponsor with valid handicaps was also graced by Kenya’s Legendary Female Golfer Rose Naliaka who emerged the best gross winner on an eight over 79 grosses.
Naliaka was at it again claiming the Ladies title on 41 points, two points ahead of runners up placed handicap 24 Mary Kinaro while handicap 18 Johnson Wamunyua with 36 points and handicap 33 Nasihah Abdalla on 41 points were the Best Senior and Junior winners respectively.
Handicap 19 Edward Kuria carded a count back score of 36 points to win the Staff prize while handicap 15 Harrison Kariuki brought 34 points to walk home with the Guest prize.
The Invited Coastal Clubs winner on 38 points was scooped by handicap 27 John Mugo as handicap 42 Naveed Arif on 44 points and handicap 38 Diana Nthiwa with 39 points were the High Handicapper Men (Hc 28+) and High Handicapper Lady (Hc 36+) winners respectively.
