The veteran Waweru delivered an outstanding performance fending off a stiff challenge from Moses Muthoki who had to settle for the runner-up position in Division One after also returning 35 points playing off a handicap of 7.

Speaking after his triumph, Waweru expressed his delight saying, “I’m absolutely delighted to have qualified for the grand finale of the NCBA Golf Series. It was a challenging play, but the hard work paid off. I’m looking forward to competing with the best and giving it my all in November. This opportunity means a lot to me, and I’m excited to see what lies ahead.”

Handicap 20 Stephen Mutethia emerged as the winner in Division Two (Handicap 13 to 24), scoring an impressive 37 points while in the ladies’ category in the same division, Purity Githui playing off handicap 20 led the ladies with 35 points, securing her victory in the female division.

Division Three (Handicap 25 and above) saw handicap 27 Ian Kirimi take the win with 35 points and handicap 29 Chris Njuguna was the standout guest, winning his category with 37 points.

Samuel Mwangi playing off handicap 31 dominated the staff category with a remarkable 43 points while handicap 20 Joseph (Jnr) Warui claimed the junior prize after scoring 34 points.

This was the first time the series was taking place at the club since 2021, with 120 golfers gracing the greens for a chance to qualify for the grand finale, scheduled to be held at Muthaiga Golf Club on 29th November 2024.
The series which teed off in March this year has grown to become one of the most significant golfing events in the country, providing a platform for both amateur and seasoned golfers to showcase their talents.
The tournament has traversed Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, attracting over 2,000 golfers from across the region.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony, NCBA Group Director, Retail Banking, Tirus Mwithiga said, “We are particularly delighted to be back at this course after a two-year hiatus. The beauty and challenge of this venue make it a standout, and we sincerely hope to make the Nanyuki Sports Club a regular fixture in our series. This region has so much to offer, and we are excited about the prospect of serving you and continuing to grow together. Today’s event has been a testament to the incredible talent and passion found here. The level of skill, determination, and sportsmanship displayed on the course was nothing short of inspiring.”
As part of the Bank’s NCBA Change the Story initiative, the Bank planted and donated over 100 indigenous trees at the Nanyuki Sports Club, taking part in an initiative aimed at supporting environmental conservation and enhancing the club’s green spaces.
Up next in the series is the Royal Nairobi Golf Club qualifier set to be played on September 28, 2024.
