-It’s a day of celebrations for the Chairman’s tenure in office with Sterling prizes from the sponsors lined up for winners.

Over 160 golfers will be battling he strong winds from the nearby Indian Ocean waters during the Mombasa golf club Chairman “Paul Munyao) prize golf tournament at the sea-link par 71 course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Sterling prizes has been lined up for the winners from the golfers drawn from the home club, Coast golf clubs, up country clubs including the wider Nairobi region and guests with valid index handicaps.

The day-long 18 holes stable ford tournament to celebrate the two years’ tenure in office of Munyao has received massive support from corporates.
They are namely Anant Bhat, CFAO Mobility, Wakuitu golfers, Left Cargo, KPMG, Tamaraind Mombasa, KPC, Premier Hospital, Network, Golf Box Kenya, First Capital, Plaza, Kwal, Artha, Pauland, Travellers Beach Hote and Spa, Stanbic, KCB, Britam, Nulook, Andy Golf Pro shop, Deansbrook Schools, and friends of the Chairman among others.
The dress code has strictly been set by the club as top print with a touch blue and bottom white during the day while in the evening all shall be expected to be in a classic western style fashion.
Following the large numbers of the turn out, the day starts as early as 6.30 am with the flight of W. Ong’ondo, Salim Taib, D. Jetha and a lady golfer Wanjiku Kinyeru.
Taib is among the few Muslims playing on the day with other Muslim colleagues opting out following the fasting of the holy month of Ramadhan.
“Iam playing early enough so that I can have more time of the day performing other prayers for the Ramadhan. The fasting will not affect my game and watch out at the end of the day, I might be the overall winner, “said Taib.
Another on form home golfer is Eliud Bett who is also optimistic of clinching the top spot and he will be teeing off at 7.42 am alongside Maj.Gen. Rob, James Kirumba, Chris Katiku and J. Songwa.
The Last group to tee off will be the flight of Joel Mochanga, Dr.J. Muriuki, Caroline Munyi and Jayne Githere teeing off at 1.38 pm.

The Junior category is expected to be tough with great challenges expected from Erskine Nyongesa and Harsimran Kaur while the Ladies and senior sides remain unpredictable.

The day is expected to be windy blowing from the nearby Indian Ocean waters to the course and may affect golfers’ swing drives.
The club starter Henry Kamau, also a single handicapped golfer, advises golfers to hit their drives against the wind to avoid water hazards and out of bounds areas.
“You may play well but the greens may be tricky due to the set pin holes’ positions that will make it quite complicated for other golfers to hit, “said Kamau.
This Chairman’s (Munyao) Prize tournament comes after the recent same club Captain’s (Francis Muthamia) and the club’s lady Captain’s (Fiona Mbandi) were also successfully hosted in celebration of their tenure in office.
The Chairman Paul Munyao said the tournament celebrates the day that will mark the end of his tenure as chairman and has attracted golfers visiting from across the country and the region to play and looks forward to a wonderful day of golf and comradeship.
Munyao pointed out that he expects a highly competitive yet friendly tournament, where the golfers will showcase their skills while strengthening the bond between them and the good support from the corporates.
“I have served the club as Past Honorary Secretary, Vice Chairman and as Chairman from 2023 and 2024 and also been the chairman of the irrigation committee as well as the committee on strategic development,” noted Munyao.
He pointed out that during his tenure as chairman, they have experienced tremendous growth and development and developed some strategic plan to guide the club through the next 5 years.
“We acquired new course equipment starting with a new tractor in order to enhance course maintenance, built a new water dam in order to increase our irrigation capacity, created new offices for our club management team, established a golf pro shop for the convenience of our golfers, undertook several infrastructure developments and renovations such as the renovated club house verandah and the club Pavilion and have kept working on maintaining our golf course at the best level of quality that is possible.
He noted that this has improved the club members’ experience at the club house, a growing demand for membership and the number of golfing and non-golfing members has grown tremendously.
Munyao thanked the members for their total support and appreciated the commitment of the club’s Board of Directors whom he said worked overtime in order to discharge their mandate.
