GOLF NEWS-Crown paints hosts an estimated 160 golfers at Nyali in Mombasa this weekend.

-Sigona has the NCBA Golf Series again and Professional golfers set for the PGK Equator Tour at Ruiru Sports Club.

Crown paints will be the for an estimated 160 golfers in a tournament set for the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
The golfers who will be testing their skills and talents for top honors have been drawn from the home club, Coast golf clubs, up country golf clubs with guests and staffs of valid handicaps to play in the Crown Paints golf tournament, making its maiden trip this year to the Coastal City of Mombasa.
Club Captain Omar Lewa who tees off from the first tee off box at 1.30 PM alongside J. Waigwa, Dr.R. Rao and Mary Kandu has assured the golfers that the club course known for its impressive greens and all year-round quality conditions is in good condition and promised that the day both in and out of the course will be full of excitements and enjoyable to all.
“If you don’t win any of the sterling prizes lined up, please don’t blame us. Our course is good. Thanks to our excellent irrigation system and although the course is relatively flat, the championship layout, challenging short rough and occasional coastal winds presents an interesting test for golfers of all abilities, “said Lewa.
Home golfer Justin Kaburu who last weekend emerged the overall winner of the Kenya association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC) tournament is eying for a back to back victory in this weekend tournament.
“Iam now in good form and has been going on well with serious training on my putt and swings throughout last week in preparation for this tournament. Iam hopeful of a victory if all goes well in the course but sometimes golf is funny and table may turn, “said Kaburu.

Other golfers to watch among them includes the Club’s Vice Chairman Michael Sangoro, Sammy Kamau, Jimmy King’ori, Martin Wahome, Dr.J.C. Patel and Ian Marshall while the ladies to look out for incudes the club’s lady Captain Hilda Mugure, Juliet Wanja, Wanjiku Kinyeru, Gladys Kasi, Christine Ockotch.
The Club’s Vice-Captain Muzahim Taib will be the first to tee off from the first tee off box at 7.30 AM alongside a three ball flight comprising A.J. Molu, Martin Ombura and lady golfer Truphena Oyaro while from the tenth tee at the same time will be the team of P. Kiagi, S. Chauhan, S. Dodhia, and M. Palo.
Elsewhere, the NCBA golf series returns to the Sigona Golf Club also tomorrow (Saturday) with the 16th qualifying leg of the 2025 campaign where more than 250 golfers are expected to compete at the par-72 course.
Golfers will battle for top honors in multiple categories including the overall men Gross winner, overall lady gross Winner, Division 2 men & lady winner, Division 3 overall winner, and junior winner and each category winner will secure a spot in the series grand finale slated for Muthaiga golf club in November.
The Sigona leg comes on the back of a busy schedule in June that saw five qualifying events held across the month including one at the Uganda golf club to mark the first regional event of the season.
Sigona hosted the 2023 grand finale where Kitale golf club’s handicap 5 Philip Shiharsy emerged as the standout golfer after carding 75 gross flooring a strong field of 108 players.
And the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series continue this weekend, with the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour pitching camp at the Ruiru Sports Club.
The golfers making up for the NCBA team in the Tour includes Eric Ooko, Nelson Mudanyi, Abraham Galgalo, and Njuguna Ngugi where the Bank is among seven other corporates sponsoring the PGK Player Development Program.
NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora said the series returns to Sigona and are happy to be heading back to the course where they held the grand finale in 2023.
“This weekend is a true celebration of golf in Kenya, and we are proud to play a central role across all levels of the game. At the same time, we will be supporting four professionals at the PGK Equator Tour in Ruiru, as the elite amateurs continue with the KAGC calendar at Limuru. This is a true testament to our commitment to growing the sport across the board. We are proud to support golf at every level and look forward to an inspiring weekend, “said Gachora.
