Tsevi Soni successfully defended his title at the 2025 NCBA Kenya Junior Match Play Championship, defeating Belinda Wanjiru with a commanding 4&2 win in the 36-hole final played at Sigona Golf Club in Nairobi.
In a showdown that tested skill, strategy, and stamina, Soni maintained steady control from the outset, capitalizing on key opportunities and displaying his trademark composure under pressure.
“This win means a lot to me. Belinda pushed me all the way, and it took my very best golf to come out on top. I’m proud to defend my title here at Sigona. My great appreciation to my family, friends, Sigona, JGF, and NCBA Bank for their support, “said Soni.
Wanjiru, renowned for her precision and resilience, kept the contest alive with several clutch moments, but Soni’s consistent ball-striking and decisive putting ultimately proved decisive.
The morning session remained tight with Soni holding a slender one-hole advantage at the halfway mark. In the afternoon, he steadily pulled away, sealing victory on the 34 th hole to secure his second consecutive championship.
In the contest for the 3rd and 4 th places, Kevin Anyien from Windsor, birdied 6 holes in a hotly
contested match to edge out Mikael Kihara from Vet Lab Sports Club 3 Up at the 16 th hole.
Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) President Vincent Mukiri congratulated the players and acknowledged the contributions of parents, Sigona Golf Club, and NCBA Bank.
“I am excited by the level of the sport displayed by the juniors today, looking at the scores, the
juniors have technically played scratch golf, which is key to development pathways toward
professional golf and college opportunities. We appreciate NCBA Bank’s role in nurturing
sporting talent and thank Sigona Golf Club for hosting the juniors over the past four days, “said Mukiri.
