GOLF NEWS-‘Sotet’ tournament to celebrate Kalenjin culture and heritage through Sports at the at Sea-Link Mombasa Course on Saturday.

-A Toyota Harrier GR by Khushi Motors for a ‘hole in one’ has been set for the over 180 players including sterling prizes set for the winners.

‘Sotet’ tournament is back and bigger, again coming to the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Club Course in Mombasa on Saturday featuring over 180 players all set for this much anticipated day.
The players will not only be competing for sterling prizes lined up for the winners, but also walk home with a brand new Toyota Harrier GR by Khushi Motors set to any lucky player able to hit a ‘Hole in one.’
This is the third edition of ‘Sotet’ golf tournament that kicks off from 6.30 am to accommodate the large entry and is organized by the ‘Sotet’ Golfers Association (SGA) under the theme “Celebrating Culture and Diversity.”
It is composed of golfers from the North and South Rift Valley regions of Kenya attracting a large number of players from across the Country, making it a significant event on the Kenyan golfing calendar.
Usually held at different venues, with the Mombasa Golf Club being a frequent and iconic host, this annual golf event is a celebration of golf and Kalenjin heritage, featuring an 18-hole stable ford format.
The tournament has received massive joint sponsorship from Sidian Bank, Safaricom, Hotel Saphire, Khushi Motors, Credit Bank, Pro Golf Master, Pauland, Mira Heights, The Glenlivet and Stima Sacco.

Defending title holder, home player Sandra Githere’s who claimed double top prizes as the overall winner on 42 stable ford points and the best lady gross winner on 83 gross, is excited, ready and vowed to defend the title.
“The course is always a challenge, but I’ve had a good amount of experience here and I’m feeling confident about my game. I’ve been working hard to improve my skills and prepare for the competition.
I know it’s going to be a tough field, but I’m looking forward to competing against the best golfers and ready to give it my all and see how far I can go. Let’s get started and make some birdies,” said Githere.
Club Captain George Mokaya said the Club is proud to host the tournament again for the third year running and assured players that the course is in top condition, with well-manicured greens and fairways.
“All is set, Let’s make this tournament a memorable one for our guests and participants from the home club, Nyali, Diamond Leisure, Malindi, Kericho, Eldoret and others from Nairobi and western parts of Kenya, “said Mokaya.

The Chairman who pointed out that a lot of sterling prizes has been lined up for the winners, further explained that the event often includes elements of Kalenjin tradition and is a point of pride for the community and others.
“This tournament is aimed at celebrating the heritage and rich Kalenjin culture through sports. Players and guests will also be treated to a taste of ‘Mursik’ and sample local foods like ‘Artet’, ‘Kimyetapbeek’ and ‘Kipeketinik includind local music.
