KCB RFC secured a crucial bonus point after overpowering Kisumu RFC 41–10 in their second match of the 2025/2026 Kenya Cup season at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu Over the weekend.
Despite the emphatic win, KCB had to dig deep after a sluggish start that saw hosts Kisumu dominate the early exchanges.
The home side came out with higher intensity, forcing KCB into defensive errors—the hosts took a lead through a well-taken drop goal.
But KCB grew into the game and turned the tide through Bramwel Kilwake, who grounded the ball off a strong scrum deep in Kisumu territory.
Elvis Namusasi converted to put the bankers ahead 7-3. Moments later, winger Floyd Wabwire sliced through the defense to score a brilliant try, giving KCB a 12-3 advantage at halftime.
The second half belonged fully to the visitors, who unleashed a dominant attacking display with Kilwake returning to the scoresheet with another well-worked try shortly after the restart, before former Kisumu player Branton Biko delivered a standout performance against his former club.
Biko outran the defense to score KCB’s fourth try, stretching the lead to 22-3.
The floodgates opened as Michael Kimwele and Samuel Asati added more tries, with substitutes Austin Sikutwa stepping up to convert two crucial kicks.
Biko then capped off his dream return to Kisumu with his second try of the afternoon, extending KCB’s advantage to 41-3.
Kisumu finally responded with a late converted try, but it was too little too late as KCB sealed a commanding 41-10 victory.
Speaking after the match, head coach Andrew Amonde praised his side’s resilience but challenged his squad to sharpen their starts.
“We did not start the way we wanted. Kisumu had more intensity in the first 20 minutes, and we were slow to settle. We need our players to step up earlier, especially with new faces coming into the squad who are still adapting to our structures. The bonus point today gives us momentum, but we know there is still work to do,” Amonde noted.
KCB will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten run as they return home for Round Three.
