GOLF NEWS-Priscillar Mutash broadens her smiles to the podium after clinching the Chairman’s (Lawrence Odhiambo) 2025 prize title at Sea-Front course in Mombasa.

It was a majestic kit-cat walk with board smiles evidently seen on the youthful Coast Lady golfer Priscillar Mutash while walking to the podium after her name echoed through vibrating speakers around the giant open ground tent placed at the Sea-front course near the pavilion in Mombasa on Saturday night.

This moment is always critical to any golfer’s wishes after playing a day’s hard round of golf, and for Mutash, She nailed it down and it was indeed her proud time to be crowned the best player of the day.
The home club’s Mutash brought the day’s best score of brilliant 43 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner of the Chairman’s (Lawrence Odhiambo) 2025 prize golf tournament played at the par 71 Mombasa Golf Club course, an oldest Golf club in the Country having been established in 1911.
Though it was not an easy victory, the handicap 25 Mutash said that after an extensive training, patience and focus, she was able to brave the day’s strong winds from the nearby Indian Ocean waters that was blowing across the par 71 Mombasa Golf course and clinched the top in the Club Chairman’s 2025 (Lawrence Odhiambo) tournament, beating a team of 152 players.
“It’s training, patience on the course and applying skills that was all needed to overcame challenging course with tricky pin hole positions, challenging, strong winds, hot weather and veteran players. The effort has been paid off and I’m truly honored to win today. This has been my day, the victory over my seniors here, means a lot to me, especially coming at this early stages of the season. Iam thrilled also to be part of this club’s legacy and I would like to thank our Chairman (Odhiambo) for hosting such an amazing tournament and also grateful to my family, friends and sponsors for their support. Let’s keep golfing and inspiring more women in the sport,” said Mutash.
Club Chairman Lawrence Odhiambo who hosted the tournament with an overwhelming sponsors to bid farewell to members and friends after his one-year successful tenure in office, saw Elvis Nduati playing off handicap 19 emerge the overall runners up with a score of 40 points.
The Men winner prize was claimed by handicap 12 Justine Ongere on a two way count back score of 39 points after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 22 Patrick Muture and third placed handicap 1 Gurbux Singh who was also the best gross winner with a 2 under par 69 gross.
Diani’s Diamond Leisure Golf Resort Club Lady captain Getrude Mwendah playing off handicap 32 was the best lady on 40 points with handicap 24 Gladys Kasi surviving for the runners up slot on a count back score of 39 points after tying with third placed handicap 30 Susan Mwangi.
The best past Chairman prize was scooped by handicap 18 Johnstone Wamunyua on 37 points and Nyali Golf and Country Club Chairman Michael Sangoro playing off handicap 20 scored 22 points to emerge the best Coast Chairman of the day.
David Gaitho playing off handicap 8 carded 34 points to win the best Royal Nairobi Golf club team prize while Nyali Golf and Country club’ handicap 18 Andrew Miheso on 41 points and handicap 2 Nathan Ngweno’s 35 points were the bet guest and juniors respectively.

In the commercials, Nyali golf and country club Lady captain Zaituni Mohamed was the nearest to the in lady winner after her shot landed only 8 feet away from the 18 th hole and David Kyambade was the same winner in the men side after his shot landed only 4 feet from the same hole.
Club Captain George Mokaya thanked the players for participating in large numbers in celebration of the Club Chairman Odhiambo whose leadership at the Club has been described by all members as tremendous.
“We are here to celebrate an outstanding Chairman, for his leadership and total dedication as he leaves the Club stronger, united and with a tremendous growth in Membership. Thank you Chairman, “said Mokaya.
Chairman Lawrence Odhiambo said that he was filled with gratitude and pride and serving as the Chairman of the of the club, second oldest in Kenya has been an incredible journey and one of the greatest privileges in his life.
“I would like to acknowledge the tremendous participation of the tournament over the week, starting with caddies on Monday, the 36 hole Pro and Elite Amateurs on Friday, the Club nite, the Chip and putt competition that culminated with the main tournament today, “said Odhiambo.
He pointed out that the Enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by all participants exemplifies the spirit of the club while the tournament has not only showcased skills on the course but also has strengthened the bonds of friendship among the players.
“Together we have strengthened the very core of our club, ensuring that it remains a welcoming and vibrant community for all, their families and even guests, “said Odhiambo.
The outgoing Chairman said that some highlights of notable achievement during his tenure in office includes the successful completion of the club’s new constitution that will reflect members’ commitments to transparency and effective governance, paving way for a brighter future of the club.
“We also continue to celebrate our impressive victory at the centenary Tana shield where we participated for 99 years and finally won after 100th year. This stands as a testament to our hard work, resilience and dedication that denies our great club and winning this prestigious tournament has further solidified our reputation within the golfing community in the country, “noted Odhiambo.
He has also said that announced that this year, the club has grown by 103 members which marks remarkable increase as a clear indication of the appealing environment that the club continue to cultivate and the ongoing irrigation project which through partners will make the course remain in pristine condition.
Odhiambo praised the Club’s former Chairmen whose leadership has laid a solid foundation for all to build upon, expressed sincere appreciation to his family, fellow members of the Board for their unwavering support and Sponsors.
“Gentlemen, you have been my source of strength, thank you for always there to offer support. Valuable sponsors who have supported the club generously, ensuring the success of this event. Words are not enough to express my appreciation and am grateful, “noted Odhiambo.
He also thanked the Royal Nairobi Golf Club Chairman Sylvester Odhiambo for his leadership and friendship which have strengthened bonds between the two clubs and coming with large members to attend the tournament.

Handicap 3 David Matano brought 37 points to win the Men Division A prize with handicap 7 Munge Karoki taking u the runners up slot on 36 points.
Division lady winner was handicap 16 Eunice Muthemba on a count back score of 34 points, tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 14 Naomi Kimata.
Handicap 15 Isaac Charagu brought 41 points to emerge he Division 2 men winner while the runners up slot was won by handicap 16 Brian Nyamu who had 38 points.
Linda Kinyua playing off handicap 15 brought 34 points to win the Division 2 ladies prize on a count back score by tying with runners up placed handicap 20 Millicent Kimathi.
The division 3 men winner was handicap 20 Brig.Joseph Muracia on a score of 38 points while the same for the ladies was won handicap 29 Wanjiru Gathecha with a score of 30 points.
