GOLF NEWS-From rain to memories, Juniors produce excellent results in 4th NCBA Coast Junior open at Nyali.

-In a thrilling showdown Maahir Patel and Cherono Kipkorir emerged the stand out overall players.


-The three days’ challenge featuring 52 Juniors aged 21 years and under, Boys and Girls from the Coast, across the country and Ghana was supported by NCBA and organized by the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF).


-Focus now shifts to the KC Junior Golf Series 2026 Championship in South Coast at Diani’s Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort Course in Kwale County on Sunday, 26th, April, 2026.

Sigona’s Maahir Patel and Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s Cherono Kipkorir emerged the top overall boy and girl players at the conclusion in the 4th NCBA Coast Junior Open challenge that concluded at the lush, tree-lined, 6,276-yard par 71 layout Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Monday.

Despite heavy rains that threatened the play at the 18 holes course, Patel clinched the overall Boys’ title after a tense battle with Ghana’s Kingsley Afful.

The two players were tied heading into the 18th hole, but Patel held his nerve to secure victory with a crucial par, while Afful carded a bogey.
Patel then closed with a round of 77 gross to finish at 15-over-par 228 gross, just one shot ahead of second placed Afful at 16-over-par 229 gross.
“If someone told me at the turn that I would go on to win, I wouldn’t have believed them. I dedicate this win to my parents for their support,” said Patel.
The three days’ tournament from Saturday, featuring 52 Juniors aged 21 years to 13 years and under, Boys and Girls from the Coast, across the Country and Ghana was supported by NCBA and organized by the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF).
The open competed for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) order of merit points by the Juniors, saw the day two leader Justin Ngeera from Vet Lab Sports club finish at 18-over-par 231 gross, settling for the 14-15 Years old Boy winner slot.
In the Girls’ division, Cherono Kipkorir delivered a composed performance to secure the title with a total of 21-over-par 234 gross, following rounds of 81, 78, and 75 gross.
“I would like to thank my parents, Nyali Golf & Country club, the Junior Golf Foundation and NCBA Bank for organizing and supporting this tournament. This is my first major junior tournament after a break due to injury and I am excited to be the champion here,” said Kipkorir.
Both champions also shared their excitement at earning entry into the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), marking an important milestone in their golfing careers.
Among the hosts Coast Juniors who made the cut to the final rounds after a cut from the first two rounds, were Hawii Odoo (Nyali) who finished with 263 gross, Tonny Gachau on 263 gross, Aaron Mutisya 267 gross and David Kaguru who had 274 gross.
Host JGF Coast representative Mary Mariga was delighted and excited for the success of to the prestigious tournament hosted at Nyali.
“This greater level of participation and competition with Juniors from the Coast, across the Country and Beyond, showcased the growing talent and passion for the game among our juniors. It displayed outstanding performances, sportsmanship and an enriching experience for all participants. She pointed out that the 2026 edition once again highlighted the depth of emerging talent in Kenya with players demonstrating resilience, composure and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Organizer Sheel Dodhia said entries close on Thursday,23rd, April at 6pm, warning that there will be no post entries and appealed to Parents to take an early opportunity in registering their children in large numbers.
